Another collapse, another disappointing result for Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre vented his frustration as his side suffered a loss after conceding two late goals.

Dortmund scored an early goal as Mario Gotze found the back of net in the 17th minute of the game but Hoffenheim in the 79th and 87th minute to take away Dortmund’s chance to be on level with Bayern Munich in the table.

This was not the first time that Favre’s team couldn’t convert a lead into three points. In their last match against the league leaders RB Leipzig on Tuesday, a 2-0 first-half lead was given away by the German side.

That match ended with a scoreline of 3-3, increasing the problems for Favre and his side.  With their last match of 2019 being a disappointing one, Favre said,” We dominated the game. We were leading 1-0 and had more possession. We played too complicated and lost too many balls. But we had clear scoring chances.”

Favre told the reporters that a lead of two or three goals looked achievable but lack of crossing, converting the available chances and not being able to pass the ball to the players who were free is not acceptable and it was stupid on their part.

What hurt the Dortmund manager the most was even after being ahead in the game, the team could not manage to get a point out of it. With the Bundesliga title-race being so close and Dortmund being four points away from the top spot, top performances are expected from them.

Dortmund star Julian Brandt gave his thoughts on the game too and complained about not being able to score the second goal. According to him, the team lacked determination, conviction and concentration.

Dortmund has to bring plenty of improvement in both the attacking and defensive fronts. If they failed to do so, their claim to win the most exciting Bundesliga title race will fade away in a jiffy.
