Three centre-backs Manchester City should target in January

Manchester City are in dire need of a centre-back, and it won't be a surprise, if they spend big on a defender in January. Pep Guardiola's side have leaked goals this season following the injury to Aymeric Laporte.
Fernandinho has been forced to play at the back along with Nicolas Otamendi, and the two have not done well so far. The Argentine, especially, has made way too many errors and City cannot afford to depend on him anymore.
Manchester City were keen on signing a replacement for Vincent Kompany in the summer, but failed to get a deal done. They were after Harry Maguire, but the price tag saw the Citizens end their interest in him.
Without further ado, let's at the three centre-backs that City could sign in January:

3) Jamaal Lascelles (Newcastle United)

Jamaal Lascelles could well and truly be the number one pick for Pep Guardiola in January as he fits the bill perfectly. He is the ideal replacement for Vincent Kompany as he shares way too similar qualities.
The 25-year-old English defender is a strong tackler, can lead them from the back and win areal duels with ease. Along with Laporte, Lascelles could help City keep the opponents out and help win games.
Newcastle United won't be selling him for cheap, but would not be demanding an astronomical figure like Leicester City did for Harry Maguire. The move could cost around £45 million – something City would be happy to spend.

2) Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham)

What Manchester City need at the back is an experienced defender. Toby Alderweireld is someone who is filled with it as he has been playing in the Premier League for almost 5 years now.
The Belgian is in his final year of contract at Tottenham and was available for just £25 million in the summer. With only 6 months left on his deal, Spurs could be tempted to cash-in on him, and City could bag a steal.
Toby could prove to be a good cover for the season before City spend big in the summer on a younger defender.

1) Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig)

Dayot Upamecano has been linked with a lot of clubs ever since he made his debut, but nothing has materialized. Arsenal are the latest to be linked with him, and the Gunners are reportedly keen on signing him in the summer of 2020.
The 21-year-old could be the ideal signing for Guardiola has he should fit in well in his tactics. Dayot has got the pace, intelligence, and passing that the manager wants in his defenders.
RB Leipzig will not let him go for free, but anything spent around £60M on him would be a bargain as he can be the leader at Etihad for the next 8-9 years at least.
