Liverpool could lose Adam Lallana for free next summer; wanted by PSG

European champions Liverpool could lose versatile midfielder Adam Lallana for free this summer with the midfielder emerging as a key target for clubs in both the Chinese Super League and Major League Soccer.

The 31-year-old Englishman is in the last year of his contract at Anfield and is allowed to sign a pre-agreement with any non-Premier League suitors in January.

Despite not being a regular name on the team-sheet, Lallana is a player Jurgen Klopp rates very highly. The German gaffer is a huge fan of the former Southampton skipper's technical abilities as well as of his experience and versatility.

The former English Player of the Year has been an attacking midfielder for the most of his career but Klopp has successfully used him in a range of other positions like the number eight and even as a number six of late.

Although Lallana is yet to be officially offered fresh terms to prolong his stay at the Merseyside, Klopp is reportedly determined to discuss new terms with the player he values very highly.

Lallana made his first Premier League start since March in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa quite recently, deputising for Fabinho in the number six role.

The Brazilian was not risked by Klopp, as he was just one yellow card away from one-game suspension. Due to this, the Liverpool boss saved him for the match where they hosted Manchester City and what a difference did he make.

At the moment, Lallana is the second-choice number six of Jurgen Klopp. Also, he can be used anywhere in midfield or in the attack. No manager in the world would want to lose such a weapon from his arsenal and that too for free.

Jurgen Klopp had nothing but praise for Lallana after the Aston Villa game that saw Liverpool snatch a last-minute winner through Sadio Mane. It wasn't an easy three points to take home, but the German manager's side delivered despite everything.

Klopp said: "It was not so difficult because we had a look at the things we needed against Villa and I think you saw how good Adam Lallana worked in that system. It is a game (Villa), where we had a lot of possession. We had to see how Adam recovered from midweek, but at the moment he is fine. The decision was not so difficult."

"Adam did really well, he played a really good game. In a game like this, you need that kind of deeper play-maker. That is how it is. From that position, pass the ball, chip the ball, all that stuff. And he did that. He had a lot of ball recoveries, was good in the air, it was a good game."

On his contract, he added: “I do not know exactly what will happen in May, for anybody by the way, but the best thing a footballer can do when you have the opportunity is playing well and that is what Adam is doing. Now is the second time in a row, when he came on against (Manchester) United he was good.

“After a long time he had with some injuries here and there, he is in outstanding shape physically. That is the most important thing for a career and all the rest, we will see.”

The Reds are flying high at present on the top of the Premier League table and have an eight-point gap over second-placed Leicester City and Chelsea. They will want to keep going strong, as they look to win the league this season for the first time in their history.

Further, it has been confirmed that Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain want Lallana. It will be interesting to see how things develop now, with a host of clubs interested in adding the former England international to their repertoire.
