Predicting the World Cup clash between England and Bangladesh

England is smarting under the defeat to Pakistan and Bangladesh is still upset over their two wickets loss to New Zealand.

Importance

In this format you can't afford to lose two matches in a row as you need to win six out of nine matches to ensure that you are in semifinals. England would hate to make their qualification process needlessly complicated via a loss today.

Pitch

Both the matches here have been low scoring. Sri Lanka reeled against Matt Henry and scored 136 against New Zealand. Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Pradeep, on the other hand, uprooted the Afghans.

So, it is a pacy wicket and where movement will cause trouble in start of  innings.

England

Chris Woakes and Mark Wood may do damage to top order of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has a very weak pace attack and their spinners cause damage. So Joe Root and Eoin Morgan will need to play a controlled innings. All in all, England would be looking to chase in this game as they've proved to be exceptional in that aspect.

Bangladesh

Tamim Iqbal is not firing. Soumya Sarkar has been impressive but throws his wicket after scoring 20-30. Middle order is strong but against seaming conditions, they will be tested. Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun and Mahmudullah need to fire. Then only do the Tigers have a chance against the World Cup favorites.

If England posts 300+ score then it is beyond the reach of Bangladesh. A score around 250, however, is chase-able.

Only if Bangladesh puts up 300+ runs do they have a chance. This is considering their spinners pick up wickets when batsmen tend to attack them. Every other score can be chased by England by rotating strike against spinners.

Verdict

I believe England has enough fire power to scrape through even despite some setbacks. I predict a win for England in this one.
