Most consecutive wins in T20 World Cup history
The T20 World Cup 2026 kicked off on February 7, 2026, with three exciting matches setting the tone for the tournament. Defending champions India began their title defense at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, taking on the United States national cricket team in Mumbai.
Since the inaugural edition in ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the tournament has witnessed several dominant campaigns. India made history in 2024 by becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup undefeated — a remarkable achievement in such a competitive format.
Over the years, a few other teams have also enjoyed impressive unbeaten streaks, showcasing consistency and dominance on the global stage.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the teams with the most consecutive wins in T20 World Cup history.
5. 6 wins - India (2007-2009)

India began their campaign in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in dramatic fashion. Their opening match against Scotland ended with no result, followed by a thrilling tie against Pakistan, which India famously won in a bowl-out.
They then suffered a defeat to New Zealand — their only loss of the tournament. From that point on, India bounced back strongly and went on an impressive run, eventually lifting the trophy.
India carried that momentum into the ICC T20 World Cup. They started confidently with victories over Bangladesh and Ireland in their first two matches. However, their unbeaten streak finally came to an end when West Indies defeated them by seven wickets at Lord's Cricket Ground in their third game.
4. 7 wins - India (2012-14)

In the 2012 ICC T20 World Cup, India started strongly, winning their first two matches against Afghanistan and England at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, a defeat to Australia put them under pressure. Although India bounced back with impressive wins over Pakistan and South Africa, they narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals.
Two years later, at the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup, India looked even more dominant. They enjoyed a flawless run to the final, defeating Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Australia, and South Africa along the way. But in the final at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, they were outplayed by Sri Lanka, losing by six wickets and finishing as runners-up.
3. 8 wins - Australia (2022-24)

Australia kicked off the 2022 T20 World Cup with a loss to New Zealand, but they quickly turned things around. They bounced back in style, beating Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Afghanistan. Despite that strong run, they narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot.
Australia carried that momentum into the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies. They looked unstoppable at first, cruising past Oman, England, Namibia, Scotland, and Bangladesh.
However, their impressive winning streak across two T20 World Cups finally came to an end in the Super Eights, where they suffered back-to-back defeats against Afghanistan and India.
It was a remarkable run of victories across two tournaments — but ultimately, it ended just short of another title push.
2. 8 wins - South Africa (2024)

South Africa enjoyed a remarkable run at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, playing matches across the United States and the West Indies.
They began their campaign in Group D with confident victories over Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Bangladesh, setting the tone for what would become an unforgettable tournament.
As the competition shifted to the Caribbean, South Africa kept their momentum going. They defeated Nepal and the United States, before claiming crucial wins over heavyweights England and West Indies.
The Proteas then faced Afghanistan in the semi-final and delivered a composed performance to secure their place in the final. However, their dream run ultimately came to an end when they were defeated by India in the final, falling just short of lifting the trophy.
1. 12 wins for India (2024-26, ongoing)
India have been on an incredible run in the T20 World Cups, carrying their dominance from 2024 into 2026.
In the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, India made a strong start in the USA, defeating Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA in the group stage. Their match against Canada was washed out due to rain, but it didn’t slow their momentum.
In the Super Eights in the West Indies, India continued their fine form, beating Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia to book a place in the semi-finals. They then produced a commanding performance against England, winning by 68 runs to reach the final.
The final was a thrilling contest against South Africa, but India held their nerve to win by 7 runs and lift the trophy.
That winning streak didn’t stop there. In the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, India picked up right where they left off. They defeated the USA in their opening match, setting a new record for the most consecutive wins in T20 World Cup history.
They followed it up with a dominant 93-run victory over Namibia. Then came another big statement win — a 61-run triumph over Pakistan. Riding on Ishan Kishan’s brilliant 77, India posted 175 and then bowled Pakistan out for just 114.
In their next match, India edged past the Netherlands by 17 runs. After choosing to bat first, they put up an imposing 193 on the board and then restricted the Netherlands to 176 for seven.
Overall, India’s consistency, depth, and confidence have made them the team to beat, as they continue one of the most remarkable winning streaks in T20 World Cup history.
