Andy Murray, who recently retired, will coach Novak Djokovic through the Australian Open in January. On Saturday, Murray's representatives released statements from both players.

"I am excited to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net, as my coach," said Djokovic, whose 2024 season is over.

"Looking forward to start of the season and competing in Australia alongside Andy, with whom I have shared many exceptional moments on the Australian soil."

Djokovic is a 24-time Grand Slam champion who has spent more weeks at No. 1 than any other player in tennis history. Murray finished 2016 at the top of the ATP rankings, had won two Olympic singles gold medals, and three major trophies. He ended his playing career in August following the Summer Olympics in Paris.

"I'm going to be joining Novak's team in the offseason, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open," Murray said. "I'm really excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals."

Both men are 37 and were born a week apart in May 1987. They first faced off as juniors and eventually met 36 times as professionals, with Djokovic winning 25–11. This includes an 8-2 record at Grand Slam tournaments and an 11-8 lead in head-to-head finals.

In the Australian Open final alone, Djokovic defeated Murray four times in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016. The 2025 Australian Open will start on Jan 12.
