Barcelona pull out of Bakambu deal while the striker was mid-way to Camp Nou

Barcelona, at the last minute on the deadline day decided to withdraw from a loan deal that they had reportedly agreed with Beijing Guoan for their central striker Cedric Bakambu.

Barcelona were quite active in the last week of the transfer window, looking for a striker to replace the injured Luis Suarez temporarily, and after being linked to quite a few names, they finally seemed to identify Bakambu as the right man for their requirement.

The deal was finalized and Bakambu even started his journey to his new destination, but while he was on his way, he was conveyed by his parent club that he would have to return as Barcelona were no longer interested in the deal.

Bakambu’s flight to Spain was not a direct flight. He had to change in Hong Kong, but just as he reached Hong Kong and was about to take the second flight, he was ranged up and was informed about the situation.

Bakambu, who is normally a very cheerful personality, took the decision of Barcelona in a very sporting way and posted a light-hearted tweet to inform his fans and the press that he was not going to join the Spanish giants.

The 28-year old tagged the famous football website “transfermarkt.com” on twitter and asked them to change his current status which was being shown “almost Barcelona”. The website immediately did the needful and replied to the Frenchman with a screenshot of the page.

Bakambu has the experience of playing in La Liga before. He was at Villarreal for three years, from 2015 to 2018, before moving to China.

Bakambu’s numbers in China, playing for Beijing Guoan, have been very, very impressive. He has found the back of the net 23 times in 27 league games he has played for Guoan across two seasons so far.
