Dominic Thiem vs Felix Auger Aliassime: US Open Preview and Prediction

Second seed Dominic Thiem continues his pursuit of a maiden grand slam title as he locks horns against 15th seed Felix Auger Aliassime in the fourth round of the US Open.

He began his campaign winning against Jaume Munar 7-6 6-3 before Munar retired hurt. Thiem stood up to the challenge of fast-rising Sumit Nagal by defeating him in straight sets. Playing a former US Open champion in the third round did not daunt the Austrian as he overcame Marin Cilic in four sets.

On the other hand, Aliassime had a tough opener winning against Thiago Monteiro in four sets. He played the best match of his life thrashing the former World number 1, Andy Murray in straight sets in the second round.

The Canadian smashed a whopping 24 aces and clocked a first-serve winning percentage of 89 in a brilliant performance. Aliassime continued his fine run conceding just five games in a straight-set rout of Corentin Moutet in the third round.

Aliassime made into the history books as he became the first player born in the 2000's to reach the fourth round of a grand slam and would be pumped up to continue the good show.

"I'm not 100 percent yet, I still have to raise my level if I want to go deeper, I'm normally capable of doing this in the Slams [and] hopefully here as well," said Thiem looking at fine-tuning his game ahead of the showdown.

‘'I’m looking forward to it, always looking forward to play against these young superstars, as I’m 27 for a few days, not young anymore, I think going to be a great encounter", opined Thiem quite optimistic about his chances.

‘'For me, it would be a good match-up, interesting match-up, for now, obviously to test myself against the best in the world, against the second seed of this tournament", said Aliassime raring to prove himself.

Head to Head record

Both the players are meeting each other for the first time on tour. Having lost in the first round of the US Open last year, this is Thiem's best chance to make amends. Aliassime would look to play his aggressive game to counter Thiem's baseline prowess.
