India vs Bangladesh: Rohit Sharma set to make history in second T20I

Bangladesh is currently playing against India in the three-match T20I series. The first T20I between these two sides was held in Delhi on Sunday.

After much talk about the Delhi pollution, the game finally happened. The visitors played brilliantly and registered their maiden T20I win against India after nine attempts. It was also the 1000th T20I match in just 14 years since the inaugural T20I played in 2005.

The second T20I between these two teams will be played at Rajkot on Thursday. It will be a historic day for both Bangladesh and Rohit Sharma. The visitors have a golden chance to script a historic T20I series win against the mighty Indians.

On the other hand, Rohit is set to feature in his 100th T20I match for India. In doing so, he would become only the second player after Shoib Malik to play 100 matches in T20I history. Former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi came sclose to achieve this special landmark. He, however, called off his career with one short on 99 matches.

For India, MS Dhoni could have reached this landmark long ago if he had not decided to take a break from international cricket. Dhoni hasn't played since India's shocking exit in the 2019 World Cup semifinals. He currently has 98 caps to his name in the T20I format.

Rohit made his T20I debut way back in 2007 in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa, when India emerged as the eventual winners. Since then, the right-handed batsman has been a regular feature in the T20I side for the Men in Blue. He has made over 2450 runs, most by any player in the shortest format. He also holds the record for most centuries in T20Is.

On Thursday, the stand-in India captain will own yet another record in his illustrious career. However, Rohit might focus on squaring the series instead of personal milestones. India have lost three out of their last four T20I matches at home. So, winning the second T20I will be a top priority on Thursday.
