The Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008 and quickly revolutionized cricket, becoming one of the first franchise-based T20 tournaments to unite top players from around the globe. Since then, it has grown exponentially and is now regarded as the biggest and most lucrative cricket league in the world.

The IPL started with eight teams and expanded to ten in 2011.
