Mohammed Shami set to return to competitive cricket in Ranji Trophy 2024-25
Following a difficult year filled with injuries, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is ready to return to competitive cricket.
Mohammed Shami last played for India in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. He has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury and had surgery on his right foot in March of this year. The premium Indian pacer has spent the majority of his recovery time at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, undergoing rehabilitation for his Achilles tendon injury.
At an outstanding bowling average of 10.7, Shami took 24 wickets in 7 games during the ODI World Cup, his last competitive tournament before the injury.
Shami missed India's home test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand as well as the Duleep Trophy due to an injury relapse on his left knee in September of this year.
Mohammed Shami to make a comeback in Bengal's Ranji Trophy match
Shami has now been added to Bengal's roster for their forthcoming match against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. The match is scheduled to be played from 13 November in Indore. In the forthcoming match, Shami will make his first on-field appearance in nearly a year.
Even though Shami is not in India's squad for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, which begins in Perth on November 22, there is still a chance that the star fast bowler from India will be included if he proves himself healthy in the four-day Ranji Trophy match.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana are already among the best bowlers in the Indian pace attack; however, the addition of an experienced bowler like Shami could bolster the lineup even more against Australia's formidable batting order.
Shami had previously stated that he would like to play one or two Ranji games to get back into form before a possible call-up, but the schedule only allows him to play one match against Madhya Pradesh to demonstrate his fitness.
