Records broken at the T20 World Cup 2024
The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 was a truly spectacular event that left a lasting impact on the sport's history. Let’s delve into some of the amazing feats and records broken in the West Indies and USA during the mega tournament.

The champion set a new record for most wins in a tournament as two unbeaten teams met in the final. India became the first team to win the men's T20 World Cup without losing a single game throughout the tournament. They won all eight matches they played with one washout in the first-round game against Canada.

India's 176/7 final score was the highest by any team in a Men's T20 World Cup final, surpassing Australia's 173/2 against New Zealand in 2021.

Rohit Sharma, at 37 years and 60 days, became the oldest man to captain a team to T20 World Cup glory.

The T20 World Cup 2024 was a success for the bowlers. Afghanistan’s pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi and India’s pace battery Arshdeep Singh each took 17 wickets, the most by a bowler in one edition, breaking the previous record of 16 wickets held by Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka.

The astonishing Jasprit Bumrah of India ended with the best bowling average in an edition, with 8.3 - ahead of Anrich Nortje's figures of 8.5 in 2022. For his exceptional bowling performance, Bumrah was awarded with the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.

England's Chris Jordan smashed the record for the best bowling strike-rate in a tournament, with 8.3 - ahead of Fazalhaq Farooqi (8.9) and Tabraiz Shamsi (9.2) this year, as well as previous record-holder Jacques Kallis (9.4) from 2012 edition of the tournament. Jordan claimed four wickets in an unseen quadruple-wicket maiden over against the USA.

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson also created history as the first player to bowl four maiden overs in a T20 World Cup spell. He finished with figures of 3/0 (4) against Papua New Guinea in the kiwis' last group-stage match at the tournament.
In spite of the bowling prowess there was plenty of big hitting. The 2024 edition set a new record for the most boundaries in a T20 World Cup edition with 1,478, surpassing the previous record of 1,349 set in 2021.

The 2024 T20 World Cup also had the most sixes, with 515, surpassing 405, a significant increase from 2021's 405.

West Indies' wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran hit the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup, with 17, beating the previous record of 16 set by his legendary compatriot Chris Gayle.
