Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Daniel Evans: Hamburg Open Preview and Prediction

Second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas kickstarts his Hamburg Open campaign against Daniel Evans.

Tsitsipas is coming into this match with a surprise defeat against Jannik Sinner in three sets at the Rome Masters. On the other hand, Evans is also coming into this tournament with a tough three-set loss against Hubert Hurkacz in Rome.

Head to Head record

Tsitsipas leads the head to head record 1-0 against Evans. The Greek triumphed against the Brit in straight sets in the semifinals of the Dubai Championships this year.

Though World number 33 is not known for his clay-court prowess, he can trouble Tsitsipas with his great variety of pace and heavy topspin. The early exit in Rome could have helped Tsitsipas get some additional preparation. He would look fresher ahead of his main draw debut in Hamburg.

Strengths of Tsitsipas

He is an attacking baseliner who dictates points with his powerful forehand. His second serve is a tad inconsistent and can be exploited by Evans. Tsitsipas has a superior net game and constructs points intelligently. The Greece international can destabilize his opponents with his deft touches and variations in rallies.

Strengths of Evans

He is a smart player with sneaky shot-making abilities. Despite having a lightweight game without any powerful weapons, he has a decent forehand and a topspin heavy backhand. He can match Tsitsipas with strong volleys.

While Tsitsipas will look to get quickly off the blocks and attempt to resurrect his slumping season, Evans would aim to put his best foot forward. With the French Open just a week away, both players would look to hit the ground running.

The Greek starts as a strong favourite but must watch out for complacency in his game. He was totally off-colour against Sinner in Rome. His second-serve was wobbly as he clocked a winning percentage of only 50% and also committed six double faults in an insipid show. The Greek will have to fire on all cylinders if he wants to lift the title at Hamburg.

Prediction - Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in straight sets
