Top 5 Men's Singles Tennis Players with the Most Wimbledon Wins After Turning 30

Wimbledon, steeped in tradition and history, has always been a stage for greatness. And for some of tennis’s most iconic players, turning 30 didn’t mean slowing down—it meant starting a new chapter of dominance on the sport’s most prestigious grass courts.

Take Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, for example. Two of the greatest players in men’s tennis, they’ve treated fans to unforgettable showdowns at SW19. Between them, they have faced off in four Wimbledon finals, with Djokovic holding a 3-1 edge in those epic battles.

What’s remarkable is how both players found even more success at Wimbledon after hitting 30. Their hunger, skill, and experience only seemed to sharpen with age, leading to a significant number of their match wins at the All England Club coming in their 30s.

They’re not alone. Legends like Tom Okker, Ken Rosewall, and Jimmy Connors also shined well into their 30s, proving that age is just a number when it comes to greatness on grass. For these players, turning 30 didn’t mark a decline—it sparked a second wind.

Here's a look at the top five men’s singles players with the most Wimbledon match wins after the age of 30.

5. Tom Okker – 23

Tom Okker, like his contemporary Ken Rosewall, was destined to never lift the Wimbledon trophy. His best run at the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam came in 1978, when he reached the semi-finals. But there, he ran into Bjorn Borg and couldn’t get past the Swedish star, losing in straight sets.

The following year, Okker made another strong showing by reaching the quarter-finals. Once again, it was Borg who stood in his way—and once again, the outcome was the same. The top-seeded Borg defeated Okker in straight sets, ending the Dutchman’s Wimbledon hopes for a second year in a row.

4. Jimmy Connors – 25

When Jimmy Connors beat Ken Rosewall in the 1974 Wimbledon final, he not only claimed his first title at the All England Club but also denied Rosewall the one Grand Slam trophy that had always eluded him. Connors became just the second American in recent years to win Wimbledon, following Stan Smith’s victory in 1972.

His second—and final—Wimbledon crown came eight years later, in 1982, after a grueling five-set battle against fellow American John McEnroe. The two met again in the 1984 final, but this time McEnroe got his revenge, outplaying Connors to take the title.

Connors had another strong showing in 1987, reaching the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Pat Cash. He returned to Wimbledon for the last time in 1992, but his swan song ended in the first round with a loss to Luis Herrera.

3. Ken Rosewall – 25

Ken Rosewall came heartbreakingly close to winning Wimbledon on four occasions—1954, 1956, 1970, and 1974—but each time, he had to settle for the runner-up spot. Those near-misses denied him the chance to complete a career Grand Slam, the one major milestone that eluded his legendary career.

Remarkably, Rosewall remained a top contender well into his 30s, racking up 25 match wins at Wimbledon after turning 30. In the 1970 final, at age 35, he faced fellow Australian John Newcombe and lost in four sets. Four years later, at 39, he reached the final once again, this time facing 21-year-old Jimmy Connors. It was a generational clash, and Connors, playing in his first Wimbledon final, cruised to victory in straight sets to claim his maiden title.

2. Roger Federer – 46

Roger Federer needed five attempts to reach the Wimbledon final after making his main draw debut in 1999. In 2003, he finally broke through, defeating Mark Philippoussis in straight sets to claim his first Wimbledon title.

That win marked the beginning of a dominant era for the Swiss maestro. Federer went on to win four more consecutive Wimbledon titles, holding the trophy every year until 2008, when he was finally dethroned by Rafael Nadal in an epic final.

Federer bounced back in 2009, reclaiming the Wimbledon crown with a dramatic five-set victory over Andy Roddick in one of the longest finals in tournament history. He later captured another title in 2012—his first Wimbledon win as a 30-year-old—before earning his record eighth title in 2017, defeating Marin Čilić in straight sets.

Remarkably, Federer didn’t drop a single set during his 2017 championship run, replicating the flawless performance of his first title run in 2003.

1. Novak Djokovic – 47

Novak Djokovic reached a major milestone at Wimbledon by earning his 100th match win at the tournament with a victory over fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic. He followed that up with a comeback win against rising Italian star Flavio Cobolli, which not only showcased his resilience but also saw him break yet another record—surpassing Roger Federer for the most Wimbledon match wins after turning 30.

That win marked Djokovic’s 47th at the All England Club since turning 30 in May 2017, the most by any player in that age bracket.

Since crossing the 30-year mark, Djokovic has added an incredible 12 Grand Slam titles to his tally. After a quarter-final loss to Tomas Berdych at Wimbledon in 2017, he bounced back to win four straight titles at the tournament between 2018 and 2022. He’s matched that feat in Melbourne as well, claiming four Australian Open crowns in his 30s. The remaining four majors include two titles each at the US Open and the French Open.
