Who is Javi Guerra? Spanish midfielder linked with Manchester United
Manchester United are emerging as frontrunners to sign Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra this summer, despite strong interest from Serie A giants AC Milan.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, who came through Valencia’s youth academy and made his senior debut in 2022, has impressed with his performances and is now on the radar of several top European clubs. Journalist Daniele Longo reports that a move to Old Trafford is looking increasingly likely, with United pushing hard to complete the deal.
AC Milan are also keen on the talented midfielder and are said to be negotiating a transfer fee in the region of €25 to €30 million. However, Manchester United appear to be in pole position.
Guerra would become United’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of three other players — including Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
Who is Javi Guerra?

Javi Guerra, born in Gilet, Valencian Community, joined Valencia CF’s academy in 2019 after making the switch from Villarreal CF. His impressive performances quickly caught the attention of the club, leading to a contract extension until 2024.
He made his debut for Valencia’s B team on 23 May 2021 and soon earned promotion to the first team. Guerra made his LaLiga debut on 16 April 2023 and continued to grow in confidence and consistency, eventually becoming a regular starter.
Recognizing his development, Valencia rewarded the talented midfielder with a new contract running until 2027. Since joining the academy, Guerra has consistently delivered underrated but crucial performances, gradually establishing himself as a key figure in the senior squad.
However, it was always going to be difficult for Valencia to hold on to such a promising talent. With Manchester United expressing serious interest, Guerra appears poised to take the next big step in his career. A move to Old Trafford now seems almost inevitable, with the final agreement between the two clubs being the only remaining hurdle.
Guerra’s Playing Style
Guerra is a highly versatile and talented midfield player who can operate both in a deeper holding role and in more advanced positions. He’s known for his excellent tackling, sharp short passing, powerful long-range efforts, and ability to thread precise through balls.
While he has mainly featured as a No. 8, Guerra has also been deployed as a No. 6, a No. 10, and even as a backup striker when needed. Interestingly, coach Rúben Amorim has also used him twice as a right wing-back — a testament to his adaptability.
Over the past 12 months, Guerra has recorded a passing accuracy of 77.9%, which places him in the bottom 19% among midfielders. However, his strengths lie elsewhere. His ball-carrying ability stands out: he ranks in the top 12% for progressive carries (1.74 per 90 minutes) and in the top 17% for successful take-ons (1.01 per 90). These numbers highlight his dynamic style and ability to drive play forward.
