Andy Murray vs Felix Auger Aliassime: US Open Preview and Prediction

115th-ranked Andy Murray will face World number 21, Felix Auger Aliassime in the second round of the US Open tonight.

Murray was on the brink of elimination after losing the first two sets against Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round but the Brit roared back winning the next three sets 7-6 7-6 6-4.

It was dogged determination from the former World number 1 as he saved a match point in the fourth set and emerged victorious in the end.

On the other hand, it was usual business for Aliassime as he romped to a four-set win against Thiago Monteiro. The 20-year-old was clinical as he smashed 17 aces and clocked an 83% winning percentage on his first serve. It was also his maiden win at the US Open.

“[Felix] hits a big ball. He moves well. I hit with him once only in Beijing last year… He's getting up to the top of the game. I think he quite obviously likes playing on the hard courts. He's had some struggles with his serve at times. That's something that I'll look to capitalise on,” said Murray revealing his gameplan against Aliassime.

Having watched Murray play in the US Open 2011 from the stands, it has been a dream come true for Aliassime to play against the three-time grand slam champion.

“I'll be expecting the best from him next match… I'm going to prepare myself for a battle. Obviously, we're all glad to see him back. I watched the whole way of his recovery. It's good to see him playing good again and healthy. It's an honour for me to face up with a guy like Andy", said Aliassime appreciating his illustrious competitor ahead of the showdown.

Head to Head record

The two players are facing each other for the first time on the tour. While the Canadian would look to trouble Murray with his wristy forehand and a powerful first-serve, Murray would aim to dictate the rallies by playing aggressively from the baseline.

Prediction - Andy Murray to win in five sets
