Arsenal to renew their interest in French winger Thomas Lemar

Newly-appointed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly ready to reignite Arsenal's interest in Thomas Lemar with a January loan bid for the Atletico Madrid flop.

The World Cup winner is having a torrid time with the La Liga giants and Arsenal are ready to end his nightmare.

The 24-year-old versatile attacking midfielder joined Atletico Madrid in 2018 snubbing interest from Arsenal and it is safe to say that he probably regrets that decision.

The Frenchman is yet to score or assist a single goal for Diego Simeone's side this season and Atletico have reportedly lost their hopes on the former AS Monaco star.

Arsenal will face competition from French giants Olympique Lyon for the services of Lemar if reports in Spain are to be believed. However, Lyon are more keen on a loan deal with an option to sign the player at the end of the loan spell.

Lyon are in desperate need of quality on the flanks following an injury to their star forward Memphis Depay, who has had a scintillating season before his layoff. And, Lemar was among the very best players in the Ligue 1 prior to his move to Atletico, which is why Lyon are interested in his services.

In his 18 months at Atletico, Lemar has never been able to showcase his massive potential and prove the massive amount of price tag the club spent for his services.

Diego Simeone's side are seven points off the top in La Liga with Lemar subbed off early in the second-half in both of their last two matches.

It is a general consensus at the Wanda Metropolitano that Lemar's time at the club is over and it could mean only good news for the Gunners, who are long-term admirers of the winger.

Arsene Wenger wanted him two years back as a replacement of Alexis Sanchez and saw a bid worth €90m rejected by AS Monaco. Liverpool also had an interest in the player but were not ready to spend that much for the player.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add more quality and creativity to his side and Lemar could provide exactly that. Arsenal are said to be preparing a bid for the Frenchman in January and also targeting RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland is also reportedly a target but the German giants are keen to hold onto their priced asset.
