Manchester United closing in on transfer guru

Manchester United are closing in on the appointment of a new Director of Football at Old Trafford as per reports in England. The man they are trying to bring is none other than Luis Campos who is regarded as one of the very best in the business.

The 55-year-old is a close acquaintance of former manager of the Red Devils Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese desperately wanted his compatriot to be appointed by the club when he was the manager.

However, Manchester United executive vice-chairman felt that it would be a wrong move as it could have meant Mourinho getting too much power. Now that Mourinho has left the club, the Red Devils are said be looking for the transfer guru to help them steady the ship.

Things have not gone well for Manchester United both on and off the pitch in the last few years. Their transfers have been pretty bad overall and someone like Campos can help them move in the right direction in the future.

Campos has been sensational in the role of Director of football at AS Monaco and then LOSC Lille. discovered the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, Anthony Martial and many others for Monaco.

Also, Monaco made big profits in the transfer market during his time and have somewhat lost their way since Campos moved to Lille. While, Lille's fortunes have certainly improved since the Portuguese arrived at the club.

Lille got a whooping £72million for Nicolas Pepe from Arsenal which was a massive deal for the French side. And, the Red Devils desperately need someone like him considering how they have fared in the transfer market in recent years.

They splashed a lot of money and brought superstars to the club and most of them flopped. There are many examples like Alexis Sanchez, Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The fans have been calling for the club to recruit a director of football for years and they could finally get one of the very best.

After the acquisitions of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James last summer, a lot of rebuilding is still to be done at Old Trafford and with Campos, the rebuilding could be a lot better.
