The FIFA World Cup 2022 has so far been a classic as some renowned and new names have set the stage on fire. 

While the talk has been surrounding the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, a few new faces have slowly done their bid to make a name. The likes of Cody Gakpo and Marcus Rashford have been on fire for their respective teams, so who are the best players so far in the FIFA World Cup 2022?

Bruno Fernandes (Portugal)

With two goals and two assists, Fernandes has been involved in four goals in the tournament and his highlighting his importance for the side. Ability to switch the play, Fernandes was lethal in Portugal’s opening game where he landed a brace of assists with two in two minutes. Moreover, he followed that with a brace against Uruguay and is thus far enjoying the form of his life.

Cody Gakpo (Netherlands)

Unknown on the international stage before the World Cup, Cody Gakpo announced his arrival with an 84th-minute strike against Senegal in Netherlands’ opening group match. The 23-year-old PSV star did not take long before he scored again in the second encounter of the group against Ecuador which ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Currently, the joint-highest scorer in the tournament, Gakpo has scored in every match he has appeared at the tournament.

Marcus Rashford (England)

A place in the Starting XI was not guaranteed for Marcus Rashford before the start of the tournament, but things have changed dramatically. The Manchester United player has exploded onto the scene at the World Cup and is in running for the Golden Boot. A goal against Iran in their excellent 6-2 win set the tone for Rashford as he later would score a brace that eliminated Wales from the World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe (France)

The star man from France has been in scintillating form and is the joint-highest scorer in the tournament with three goals in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Mbappe was on the scoring sheet in France’s 4-1 win over Australia in the opening match while he later scored a brace against Denmark to seal a place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup. With France expected to go further in the tournament, it won’t be a surprise if Mbappe walks away with Golden Boot, Golden Ball, and more importantly the World Cup.
