Burnley to make a move for £10m rated Championship defender

Burnley are said to be lining up a £10million swoop for centre-half Dael Fry from Middlesbrough as per reports in England.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old Englishman and believes that he could be a star Premier League defender in the future.

Fry is a player who has been in the news for a long time now and has been linked with a number of big clubs in the past. He is just 22 years of age and is a regular for the English under-21 side as well.

He has come through the ranks at Boro and is "one of their own". But a significant offer may tempt the Boro owner Steve Gibson, who is struggling to manage the finances at the Riverside Stadium.

A strong and commanding centre back, Fry played for England from Under-17 to Under-21 level, was a stand-out player for Boro in their FA Cup clashes against Tottenham this month. He looks ready for the big step up to the top flight.

Dyche recently raided Boro for another defender Ben Gibson, who has failed to make much of an impact at Turf Moor. However, Dyche believes that a move for Fry would pay off.

Gibson could be on his way out of the club for the right money and could even be used in a deal for Dael Fry.

The 27-year-old has been looked at by foreign clubs as well but only on loans. However, Burnley are looking to balance their books by selling the Englishman.

A swap involving Fry and Gibson could be on the cards but that would not bring in much cash for Boro. In fact, it would also cost them as Gibson’s wages are expected to be higher than that of Fry.

Fry boasts a frame of 6 feet 4 inches and naturally he is strong in the air. Also, he has a good eye for a pass and is technically quite strong. Signing him would be a great deal for Burnley as the player looks destined for a big future ahead of himself.

Liverpool and Chelsea have had long-term interest in the 22-year-old and might also get involved in the transfer scrap if it goes on for too long.

Meanwhile, the Clarets have also had a surprise inquiry from Wigan for Nakhi Wells. The striker is on loan at QPR but Wigan Athletic have asked about him as they bid to bolster their attacking options.

Burnley could end the loan deal and sell him to Wigan if the right offer comes in and that money could be used in other areas to ensure that Burnley can finish the season well above the danger zone.
