IPL 2025 to begin on March 14, BCCI reveals windows for next 3 seasons
In a remarkable and unique move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the "windows" for the upcoming three Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons. These windows are essentially the start and end dates.
As the teams are getting ready for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which will happen in Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25, the board has informed them the dates of next season and the following three seasons
It has been reported that the other major cricketing boards have confirmed the availability of the players to the BCCI.
When will the IPL 2025 start?
The 2025 Indian Premier League season is reportedly set to begin on March 14 and end on May 25. According to a report, the BCCI also gave the franchises confirmation of the dates of the IPL 2026 and 2027 seasons. The IPL 2026 season will be played from March 15 to May 31, and the IPL 2027 season will start on March 14 and end on May 30.
However, the IPL 2025 season will consist of 74 matches, 10 fewer than the board had specified when the media rights for the 2023–27 cycle were sold in 2022.
Although the board has informed the franchises of these "windows," it is unlikely that the dates will be changed.
The BCCI announcing their windows for the next three IPL seasons will allow the other cricket boards to plan their bilateral series. The BCCI's stringent regulations on foreign players' IPL participation have made it crucial for cricket boards to avoid scheduling their bilateral series with the IPL in conflict.
