Netherlands 2022 World Cup Guide| All you need know
The FIFA World Cup 2022 will have some of the heavyweights in the game going face-to-face as the big boys gather for the carnival of football in Qatar. The Netherlands will one of the favourites to clinch the title as they bid to lift the prize asset in football for the first time in their history.
The Dutch have ended as the second–best on three occasions, most recently in the 2010 edition. Ahead of their latest bid to win the title, here is all you need to know about the Dutch side and why they are one of the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup.
The qualification campaign for Netherlands
The Dutch have one of the best defenders in the world, Virgil Van Djik, who has been in sparkling form for Liverpool and the national side. Louis van Gaal’s side lost just one match in the qualification campaign scoring 33 goals in the process, with England and Germany scoring more goals in the European qualifiers.
In recent times, the Dutch have found it hard going in big tournaments but coach Van Gaal has the right mentality to take the team forward having helped the team finish third in 2010.
World Cup Group Details
The Netherlands have been drawn in Group A of the World Cup alongside hosts Qatar, Ecuador, and African champions Senegal. The group won’t be a cakewalk for the former three-time runners-up and will have to be wary of the likes of Sadio Mane, and Eduardo Mendy in the group meeting against Senegal, any slip-up in either of the matches against Qatar and Ecuador could result in heavy consequences.
The Dutch will play all their matches at different venues starting with Senegal at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha. They will then head to Al Rayyan to face Ecuador at the Khalifa International Stadium with Qatar awaiting them in the final matchday at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
