Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Head to Head
The two teams will meet for the first time in a competitive game since the 1960 European Cup final.
The final played at the iconic Hampden Park is still the highest-scoring final in the history of the Champions League (previously as the European Cup).
Alfredo Di Stéfano's Real Madrid won the final 7-3 as he and Ferenc Puskás scored hat-tricks in the final. Ironically this was Real's golden generation as they won the Champions League five times in a row.
Journey to Super Cup
Vinicius Junior was the match winner in the final of the Champions League after both Real and Liverpool gave their best shot. Before beating Liverpool in the final they faced two more English oppositions in the knockout stage as they beat Manchester City and Chelsea.
The clash against Manchester City in the semifinal was a close affair as they were steering the barrel to defeat until Rodrygo chipped in with two late goals.
The quarterfinal tie was also a close affair as Real needed added time to get the better of then European Champions Chelsea by beating them 5-4 on aggregate.
Frankfurt were one of the outsiders for the competition when they came into the Europa League. After a 1-1 draw in the final, it needed a penalty shootout win for Frankfurt against Rangers as they battled their win to the glory.
They beat West Ham United 3-1 on aggregate in the semifinal while their biggest win of the season came against competition favourites Barcelona. They beat Xavi's side 4-3 on aggregate, with an encouraging 3-2 in the away leg at Camp Nou to make a statement.
Can Frankfurt throw spanner in Real's work?
As things stand, Frankfurt have made some major reinforcements in their ranks as they have signed Mario Gotze.
On the flip side, Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market after the departures of Isco, Gareth Bale and Marcelo.
The European Champions have signed Aurélien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger of note. The contest is set to be a blockbuster affair as both teams try for glory for the first time of asking.
Prediction: Real Madrid 3-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
