French Open 2019: Subhankar Dey, P.V. Sindhu into the Second Round

P.V. Sindhu and Dey moves into 2nd round of French Open 2019 

It was a good day for Indian shuttler’s as Subhankar Dey and P.V. Sindhu moved into the second round of the Super 750 French Open with contrasting wins on Tuesday.

Shubankar Dey stunned Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in three sets by 15-21, 21-14, 21-17. It was an outstanding performance by Dey who played with aggression after losing the first set easily. 

Sugiarto started the first set on an impressive note putting pressure on the Indian. Dey came back strongly to reduce the gap. At the interval, Sugiarto led 11-9. After the interval, the Indonesian player made the life tough for the Indian and won the first set 21-15. 

It was a strong comeback by the Indian in the second set, as he with aggression right from the word go and never allowed the Indonesian to come back into the match. 

At the interval, Dey had a commanding 11-3 lead. After the interval, Tommy tried to make a comeback, but the Indian showed his composure to win the second set at 21-14 to force the match into decider. 

In the third and deciding set, Dey got off to a great start putting pressure on Sugiarto with great smashes. 

At the interval, the Indian led 11-6. After the interval, the Indonesian tried to comeback but Dey held his nerves to win the set at 21-17. He will take on S.H. Rhustatvito of Indonesia in the second round. 

P.V. Sindhu had no problems dispatching Mitchell Li of Canada in two straight sets by 21-15, 21-13. It was a dominating performance by Sindhu who showed her class right from the word go. 

In the first game, the Indian played with aggression and made life tough for the Canadian and won the first set easily at 21-15. 

The second set saw the Indian continue her domination and never allowed Li to comeback into the match and won it 21-13. She will take on Yeo Jin Min of Singapore in second round. 

Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth, Paruaplli Kashyap, Sameer Verma, the men’s doubles, mixed doubles pairs and women’s doubles pair will start their campaign tomorrow.
