Top five players to play for both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur
The football community has experienced many great rivalries throughout its history. Notable examples include El Clasico and the Manchester Derby, among others. One of the most prominent rivalries in English football is the North London derby, which features Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Numerous legendary players have represented these clubs; however, there are a select few who have played for both. Given that the list is restricted to senior players, it is important to note that Harry Kane is not included, as he has only participated at the academy level for Arsenal.
In this article, let’s take a look at the top five players who have played for both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
5. Jimmy Robertson

Robertson is more of a Tottenham Hotspur legend than an Arsenal one. During his time at Tottenham, he achieved notable success, netting 31 goals in 181 matches. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the 1967 FA Cup final, where he scored a key goal that contributed to the team's victory over Chelsea.
In 1981, Jimmy Robertson transferred to Arsenal in exchange for David Jenkins. His tenure at Arsenal was not particularly fruitful, as he netted only eight goals in 59 matches. Notably, Jimmy is among the rare players who have scored for both teams in the North London derby. Following the conclusion of the 1969-70 season, he departed from Arsenal to sign with Ipswich Town.
4. Willie Young

The imposing centre-back known as 'Big Willie' established his reputation at Aberdeen prior to his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Between 1970 and 1975, he played 187 matches for Aberdeen. In 1975, he was acquired by Tottenham Hotspur, where he went on to make 54 appearances over the course of two seasons.
Following his short run at Spurs, Young transferred to Arsenal. At Arsenal, Willie swiftly established himself as a first-team player. He participated in all three FA Cup finals during his time with the Gunners. Willie served as the primary centre-back for the team until the conclusion of the 1981-82 season. He thrived at Arsenal, accumulating 237 appearances and netting 19 goals.
3. William Gallas

Gallas has had his share of playing at Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. In 2006, he maneuvered his departure from Chelsea to join Arsenal. This transfer was part of a deal that saw Ashley Cole move to Chelsea. William subsequently signed a four-year contract with Arsenal.
Gallas donned the recently vacated No 10 (previously worn by Dennis Bergkamp). It was somewhat unusual for a central defender to wear the number 10. Nevertheless, he performed admirably during his time at Arsenal, making a total of 112 appearances for the club. In 2010, Arsenal had no choice but to sell Gallas due to his excessive contractual demands.
Following his departure from Arsenal, William joined Tottenham Hotspur. Gallas also served as the captain of Spurs before relocating to Australia.
2. Sol Campbell

Sol Campbell was once a beloved figure among Tottenham Hotspur supporters prior to his transfer to Arsenal. Hailing from East London, he began his professional journey with Tottenham Hotspur. Over the course of nine years at the club, he thrived and established a notable reputation. Sol Campbell earned acclaim as one of the premier defenders in England during his tenure with Spurs.
This resulted in his signing with Arsenal in 2001 on a free transfer. The Tottenham fanbase undoubtedly experienced disappointment; however, Campbell achieved significant success at Arsenal, securing two Premier League titles and two FA Cup titles. Sol Campbell is particularly renowned for being a member of the '2003-04 Invincibles.'
1. Pat Jennings

One of the iconic players for both Spurs and Arsenal. The legendary goalkeeper has made over 1000 professional appearances. Pat Jennings has played 571 matches for Spurs.
During this time, Pat achieved victory in the League Cup, FA Cup, and UEFA Cup. He became the inaugural goalkeeper to receive the PFA Goalkeeper of the Year Award, sharing this honor with Peter Shilton. Anticipating the conclusion of his career, Spurs transferred him to Arsenal.
Pat, however, demonstrated their misjudgment by swiftly securing a position on the first team. He subsequently represented Arsenal for more than seven years, contributing to the club's advancement to four cup finals over a span of three consecutive years. In total, Pat made 327 appearances for the Gunners.
