UEFA Champions League round-up: Matchday 3

Celtic had major chances during the end of the match when Rodrigo de Paul was shown a second yellow but were happy with a draw.

Group - F

Newcastle vs Borussia Dortmund

Final score line: 1-0

Scorers: Felix Nmecha (45’) assisted by Nico Schootterbeck

Match facts: Facing his former side for the very first time, Alexander Isak wasn’t hoping his match would be ended so soon after the forward was subbed off and replaced by Callum Wilson after an injury. Unfortunately, he was on the losing side of the game where Felix Nmecha scored the only goal that made the difference.

Randal Kolo Muani was on the scoresheet as well after his not-so-overwhelming start of the season with only 17-year-old Warren Zaire Emery taking away the man of the match award home with his name under the assist charts during the game. Match facts: RB Leipzig continued their good run of form with a win over Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade. A comfortable win where David Raum, Xavi Simons, and Dani Olmo were on target for the Redbull-owned team, they’d be hoping to finish in the top two among the group to qualify for the round of 16. Lois Openda would have thought to add to his scoring tally but was unable to have his name on the scoresheet, he was replaced by Benjamin Sesko.

BSC Young Boys vs Manchester City

Meschack Elia (52’) assisted by Cheikh Niasse

Match fact: Erling Haaland is back to his scoring form again with a brace against an easy BSC Young Boys side. Who worked pretty hard for their consolation goal but weren’t able to defend their team from losing. Before the match Manager Pep Guardiola was vocal about his team, on them not playing a lot of turf surfaces and it’d be a challenge for them to win in this away game, surely they did well to grab those essential three points.

Group - H

Antwerp vs FC Porto

Final score line: 1-4

Scorers: Alhassan Yusuf (37’)

Evanilson (46’) assisted by Mehdi Taremi

Match fact: FC Porto came up with vital three points with a win over Belgium champions Royal Antwerp. They are now placed second in the group and look to qualify from their group if they continue with their current form and the availability of some of their vital players. Antwerp would be looking to end up in the best possible position in the group so that even if they are not able to qualify for the round of 16 they feature in the Europa League.
