Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur Post-Match: Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte see red!

The Sunday evening encounter between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur produced a mouth-watering clash between two London rivals which saw both their managers, Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte clash during the game.

The first high-profile clash of the season was nothing short of drama as a final minute equalizer from Harry Kane earned Spurs a share of the spoils with a 2-2 draw, but it was the men at the touchline that dominated the headlines.

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte both clashed on multiple occasions during and after the clash and were ultimately shown red cards.

With Chelsea leading 1-0 after a first-half strike from debutant Kalidou Koulibaly, the match seemed to be a one–way affair until Spurs changed their formation.

The introduction of Richarlison along with Yves Bissouma gave Spurs a spring in their step and saw them equalize in the 68th minute through Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

However, in the build-up to the goal, Rodrigo Bentancur’s challenge on Kai Havertz raised eyebrows and ultimately resulted in the first brawl between Tuchel and Conte.

They both were seen coming together at the touchline as Tuchel thought his team should have received a free kick. However, Bentancur’s challenge was seen as a fair one by referee Anthony Taylor and that later resulted in the equalizer.

Also, there was a hint of offside in the goal after Richarlison was deemed to have blocked the vision of Eduard Mendy in goal. The two managers were seen clashing at one other and exchanging words at the touchline with the fourth official separating them.

After the equaliser, Chelsea looked to gain momentum and quickly didn’t need too much time to find the back of the net. Reece James was through on goal after he was left unmarked in the box in the 77th minute and put the blues ahead at 2-1.

The clash looked to be yet another sucker-punch for Spurs as they the North Londoners looked on course for a defeat before a 96th minute header from Harry Kane got deflected from James and found the back of the net.

But like the first goal, Tuchel thought the goal should not have stood as Marc Cucurella had his hair pulled by Christian Romero in the build-up.

A corner that preceded the goal-scoring corner, had seen both the Chelsea and Spurs defender come together where Romero was seen pulling the hair of Cucurella.

But despite the Video Assistant Referee's (VAR) presence nothing concrete was found and the corner was taken that later resulted in another corner and Spurs pinched a point.

After the full-time whistle, Tuchel had a tug of Conte’s hand while doing the handshake. This resulted in both of them clashing for the second time and this time the referee saw otherwise and produced red cards. They both will now miss the next match at the touchline and could have further sanctions.
