Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings Today: Karim Benzema blows away the Blues!!

It was all one-way traffic at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea were downed by yet another hat-trick by Karim Benzema, who is enjoying the form of his life.

The Frenchman helped Real Madrid seal a 3-1 win against the reigning champions of Europe, Chelsea.

The nasty predicament now means that Chelsea needs a miracle of sorts to make the semi-final. Here is a look at the player ratings from the first leg.

Chelsea Player Ratings

1. Edouard Mendy

Poor on the night as he gifted Benzema his hat-trick goal, particularly could have had a better placement for the second goal as well. Mendy was instrumental 12 months ago, but no way near his best on the night.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 3/10

2. Recce James

Not much did Recce James do wrong as the opposition was running riot. The wing-back position was neutralized by the opposition midfielders making it impossible for James to dictate the game.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 5/10

3. Antonio Rudiger

A player who was far from impressive, Rudiger is tipped to join Real in the summer. However, his auditions didn’t go good as Benzema was his biggest nightmare on the night and couldn’t resist him from scoring the hat-trick.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 5.5/10

4. Andreas Christensen

Another player who is out of contract and was out of form on the night, Christensen was not at his best as he couldn’t stop the passes and allowed free runs to the likes of Vinicius and Valverde in his penalty area.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 3/10

5. Thiago Silva

Not the best night in his Chelsea career, Thiago Silva was at it again by the Spanish giants. He has been one of the best defenders in the world, but against a world class striker like Benzema, Thiago Silva looked a shadow of his own.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 4/10

6. Cesar Azpilicueta

The captain almost pulled one back for Chelsea in the second half, if the opposition goalie wasn’t at his best. Azpilicueta didn’t trouble the opposition lineup defensively nor offensively and needs to be at his lethal best next week.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 6/10

7. Jorginho

Argubaly one of the players responsible for Chelsea to win the Champions League last year, Jorginho has gone off the radar in recent times and could have done well to stop the passes. He didn’t contribute defensively nor offensively as Chelsea were lackluster in the midfield.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 5/10

8. Ngolo Kante

At times he looked as Chelsea’s best threat, but Kante couldn’t influence the game as his international teammate Benzema was running the show, while he watched on. Kante will have to be effective in the second leg if Chelsea are to stand any chance of progressing.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 6/10

9. Kai Havertz

Arguably the best Chelsea player on the night, Havertz’s goal is the only reason why Chelsea can still dream of progressing to the next round. Havertz scored in the final of the Champions League last year, while he will also need to be at his best, next Tuesday.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 8/10

10. Mason Mount

A player who has looked a shadow of himself, he was at times superb with the ball. However, apart from a short spell in the second half Mount was ineffective and couldn’t do much. Mount scored against Real last season, but there was no heroics for him today.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 5.5/10

11. Christian Pulisic

Pulisic has been superb for the national side, but his club form is somewhat not upto standards as he went missing like every other player. A solid performace in Barnebau is needed for Chelsea and Pulisic if Chelsea are to defend their crown.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 5/10

Real Madrid Player Ratings

1. Thibaut Courtois

The former Chelsea man was called into action on multiple occasions and made some super saves, non better than the Azpilicueta save as he kept his team’s lead intact. The Belgium star will once again have to be at his best next Tuesday if Real are to make yet another semi-final.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 7.5/10

2. Dani Carvajal

Particularly didn’t have much to do as Benzema and company were at their fluent best. Carvajal’s defensive abilities were an added bounce in the second half as Real kept the ball and countered whenever presented with the opportunity.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 7/10

3. Eder Militao

Could have been sent off, but survived a challenge and was given a yellow card. However, he did go missing after getting substituted with injury in the second half. His yellow card didn’t help the cause as he will miss the second leg through injury.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 6.5/10

4. David Alaba

A free signing from Bayern Munich, David Alaba lighten up the stage and was the right man at right place to deny Chelsea any clear sight of goal. Alaba could have done better during the Chelsea goal and will have to be at his best next week if Real are to make the final four.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 7/10

5. Ferland Mendy

Could have done better on the night for the goal, but otherwise, he did his job to perfection and will certainly be proud of his performance at Stamford Bridge. Mendy was near perfect on the night, both defensively and attacking wise.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 7/10

6. Luka Modric

One of the best midfielders in the world to grace the game, Modric was once a drive away from signing for Chelsea in 2011, but 11 years on, he has taken his game to another level and showed his class on the night.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 8.5/10

7. Casemiro

One of the consistent performers in the side, Casemiro was excellent at times and provided the lubrication required in midfield. He was more defensive in approach and was an important part of the team that did the ball management.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 7.5/10

8. Toni Kroos

Toni Kroos did what Toni Kroos does as he kept the Chelsea midfield silent. Often a handy customer, he went missing at times but made sure he did his job before getting substituted. He will once again be an important player when the two teams meet next week.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 7/10

9. Vinicius Jr

While Benzema was outing the goals in, Vinicius was his chief architect as he provided the assist for the first goal. The Brazilian was one of the best players on the night and could have added had it not been for the crossbar to deny him.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 8.5/10

10. Federico Valverde

Dazzling at times, the Uruguayan was running the show whenever presented with the opportunity. Valverde did the job when Chelsea were trying to fight their way back.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 8/10

11. Karim Benzema

There is a special connection between Karim Benzema and the Champions League as the Frenchman ended with yet another hat-trick.

The ‘Man of the Match’ scored two superb headers in the first half followed by a gift in the second half by Mendy to complete his treble. Lord Benzema is enjoying his time in the middle at 34.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid Player Ratings: 9.5/10
