Cristiano Ronaldo reaches yet another career milestone

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 43rd goal in Serie A recently against Bologna, overtaking Rui Costa to become the leading Portuguese goal scorer in Serie A history.

A spot-kick in the first quarter of the game helped Juventus in a 2-0 comfortable win, a victory that saw the Old Lady move four points clear at the top of the table.

It was also Ronaldo’s 22nd goal in Serie A this season, one more than he managed in his maiden season in Turin after moving away from Real Madrid.

Rui Costa played for eight years in Serie A, serving for Fiorentina and then AC Milan between 1994 and 2006. Ex-Manchester United player Ronaldo is also the leading Portuguese goalscorer in the Premier League having netted 84 goals in 196 appearances.

Ronaldo is also at the top of the Portuguese goalscorers list in La Liga, registering a massive 311 goals in 292 appearances for Los Blancos, where he is also the all-time leading goalscorer.

Only Lionel Messi has managed to score more than Cristiano Ronaldo in the Spanish top flight.

Ronaldo looked in fine touch against Bologna after being rusty in his first two games post-lockdown. After a loss to Napoli in the Coppa Italia final, Ronaldo was seen very disappointed as it was the first time in his long career that the Portuguese skipper lost two consecutive finals.

Juventus fans all over the world are worried as Juventus have seemed clumsy at times, the fluidity they had before football’s suspension was different. As things stand, Lazio trail by four points with a game against Atalanta to be played on June 25.

Atalanta have been superb at home and Lazio are expected to be ready for a tough match. However, Serie A top-scorer Ciro Immobile will be at his best, scoring 27 goals in 26 Serie A games. A goal ratio of over one is something Atalanta fans will not be happy about as they look forward to sealing the Champions League spot.
