Everton looking to sign this out of favour Napoli attacker
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to make a move for Hirving Lozano this summer with Napoli looking to dump the flop forward, according to reports in Italy.
Manchester United had been among the long list of clubs chasing the Mexican international last summer, before he joined Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in a £35 million deal.
But after a wildly underwhelming season at Naples so far, Everton are now leading the race for the 24-year-old with his former boss Ancelotti hoping to bring him to Goodison Park.
After scoring 21 times in 40 games for PSV last season, Lozano has only been able to manage three in 28 games this campaign.
Napoli are thought to be on the brink of cutting their losses if he fails to show any hint of improvement during the remainder of the season.
And, Ancelotti is well aware of the situation and is eager to reunite with the player at the blue half of Merseyside.
The Toffees boss worked with Lozano for three months before he was sacked by Napoli in December.
Another boost for Everton is that Marcel Brands, the club's director of football, is the same man who first brought Lozano to Europe.
The Italian media claim that Ancelotti is hoping to link-up with the versatile forward again this summer.
Everton may be forced to spend big, with Napoli hoping to recoup all of the £35m spent last summer.
But the Toffees haven't been shy in splashing the cash when needed in recent seasons, with Moise Kean, Alex Iwobi, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison all expensive buys from the past few years.
Lozano is predominantly a left winger but can be equally effective on the right flank and even as a number nine.
He is blessed with tremendous pace and acceleration and is a good finisher.
Everton are in need of a major overhaul and players like Lozano could take them to the next level.
The Mexican would be a great addition to the Everton attack alongside Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin while a number of players from the club could be on their way out.
