La Liga Champs Barcelona Want This Dutch Star Now; Is He That Good?

La Liga holders Barcelona have joined the race to sign highly-rated PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen, as the £50m-rated star continues to impress. The Camp Nou side have been hunting for a striker capable enough to fill in the boots of Luis Suarez in the future. Reports claim that they have identified Malen as the potential candidate for that big job.

Luis Suarez is 32 and has not been at his best in the past couple of seasons, although his form has certainly improved this campaign. It is hardly a surprise, however, to see Barcelona already looking for his successor. That’s how the big teams operate.

Reports in Spain claim the Catalan giants are now watching 20-year-old Malen and are huge admirers of the Dutchman. They are believed to be preparing a bid in the range of £50m for the former Arsenal wonder-kid.

Barcelona’s recent activities in the transfer market have shown that they are most interested in signing younger players with a long-term future. Malen being just 20, fits the bill.

He has been excellent for PSV and has also shown the maturity to make his mark at the international level. Also, Malen’s style of play is perfectly suited for Barcelona. He is not a typical number nine and would thrive at a team like Barcelona. He is a tremendously quick player boasting excellent dribbling skills and is quite prolific in front of goal.

Malen has been likened to the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Thierry Henry. He is also capable of playing on the flanks thanks to his pace and dribbling skills. Another good thing about the young Dutchman is that he is adept with shooting on either foot and is decent aerially as well. At just 20 now, he will certainly grow by leaps and bounds as a player and can become a real world-class player.

Barcelona will, however, face quite a lot of competition for the Dutch wonder-kid, as Arsenal are also interested in their former youth product whom they let go for just £200,000 two years ago. With the kind of form he is in, he is certain to attract more interest from across the European continent.
