ICC WC 2023: India vs New Zealand: Preview & Prediction

India will look to continue their match-winning momentum in the ICC Cricket World Cup when they face New Zealand in their next match at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala. The match promises to be a close contest between bat and ball as both the teams are in good form having won all their matches till now. However, the fact that India hasn’t beaten New Zealand in ICC tournaments since 2003 might play on their mind but the Men in Blue have taken their game to another level in this tournament which is visible in the way they are playing so there are high chances that the losing streak against New Zealand gets broken. In this article, we will look at all the aspects of the match

India are looking like the team to beat in the tournament with the way they have played so far. The bowling looks in magnificent form. Batting also looks in great touch after a slip-up in the first match against Australia. Captain Rohit looks in great form and would look to continue the same in the match against New Zealand.

The only area of concern for the Men in Blue would be the injury to Hardik Pandya who got injured in an attempt to field the ball in his follow-through

It will be interesting to see who replaces him in the playing eleven. Will the team management bring in Surya Kumar Yadav and Mohamed Shami to compensate for Hardik’s dual skills and drop Shardul in the process or will Ashwin walk in the eleven as an extra bowling option?

New Zealand

The Blackcaps are in great form and are the table toppers. The team looks like a well-rounded unit with in-form players. They will be boosted further by the comeback of Tim Southee who will be available for the match against India. Like India, they will also look to continue their rich vein of form.

Probable Playing XI

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

New Zealand: Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(c)(wk), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Trent Boult

Pitch Report

The HPCA Stadium has hosted three matches so far in the ongoing World Cup. Two of them have been won batting first, except for the low-scoring encounter of Afghanistan and Bangladesh. This shows batting first and defending the target is comparatively easier for teams on this pitch.
