Manchester United and Chelsea interested in the PSG superstar

According to reports, Chelsea and Manchester United have both contacted Edinson Cavani regarding a January move away from Ligue 1 holders Paris Saint-Germain.

The Uruguayan superstar is thought to be on his way out of Parc des Princes and Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid are believed to be his potential destination, but the two Premier League powerhouses are looking to hijack the move in the eleventh hour.

It is almost certain that Cavani will leave PSG in January and he even appeared to say goodbye to supporters as he waved to the crowd following Paris Saint-Germain's win over Linas-Montlhery in the French Cup.

The 32-year-old has been at the French club since 2013, scored twice in the 6-0 away victory as PSG booked their spot in their last-32. He has been a key part of PSG's ambitious project over the years and will be remembered fondly by the fans for many years to come.

Cavani's contract with Thomas Tuchel's side expired in the summer and it was claimed that he was close to agreeing a pre-contract with Atletico Madrid ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

Recent reports, however, claim that the Uruguay international does not want to wait till the summer anymore and is keen to leave in January itself.

A player of Cavani's calibre being available all of a sudden and that too on a cut-price deal has alerted Chelsea and Manchester United who are looking to bolster their attacks for quite sometime now.

Atletico Madrid were also hoping to bring Cavani to the club this month, but PSG are reluctant to allow him to leave until a replacement is brought in. And, it has given the Premier League enough time to try to scupper the move.

PSG are thought to be ready to lose either Kylian Mbappe or Neymar in the summer and with Cavani's departure, they could be caught further short. And, that is why they are not willing to lose their striker in January.
