Man Utd vs Arsenal: Match Preview

Not less than 16 Premier League (PL) titles in between them and two of the most successful clubs in the history of the game as Man Utd and Arsenal will lock horns on Sunday.

With the Gunners sitting at top of the pile and United recovering from early setbacks, the clash at Old Trafford should serve as a mouth-watering prospect for fans across the globe. So here is a look at the team news and the head-to-head clashes between the two old foes.

  • Arsenal travel to Old Trafford with a 100 percent record having won all five matches so far
  • The Red Devils have won three consecutive matches after losing the opening two matches of the season
  • Arsenal last won a Premier League game at Old Trafford, it was in January 2020 thanks to a winner from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Man Utd Team News

With a successful transfer window, Manchester United will be hoping to draft in the big signings as early as possible.

Defensive solidity for the Red Devils:
While we expect Diogo Dalot, Raphaël Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Tyrell Malacia to start on in the heart of the defense, Luke Shaw will be the unfortunate member along with Harry Maguire to miss out.

Casemiro to start in midfield?
While Scott McTominay struggled in the midweek, Erik ten Hag will be optimistic to make use of big-money signing Casemiro who is yet to start a PL game.

The midfield should see the services of Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes retained as they have impressed whenever on the field.

Who will spearhead the attack for United?
The big question remains on another big-money purchase Antony, who arrived on the deadline day for a reported fee of €95m. The Brazilian has already scored for Ajax in the Eredivisie but will have to face competition from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsenal Team News

The Gunners look certain to miss out on the services of summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Gunners sweat on the fitness of Ramsdale and Ødegaard:
Both Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Ødegaard picked up knocks in the midweek game against Aston Villa, while Zinchenko is out with a knee injury, but all three players were seen boarding the team bus ahead of the Sunday clash.

If Ramsdale is fit he will start, but if not then American Matt Turner will take his place in the team.

Ødegaard, who is now the captain of the side, will be replaced by Fabio Vieira in case he misses out due to injury.

Defensive solidity for the Gunners:
The Arsenal backline will be unchanged with the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba, and Kieran Tierney all starting.

Unchanged front three:
Gabriel Jesus has impressed since his big-money move will probably start alongside Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka as the front three.

Man Utd vs Arsenal: Head to Head

Over the years, the two teams have met on 60 occasions with the team from Manchester gaining the upper hand.

Man Utd have won this fixture on 25 occasions compared to Arsenal, who have won on 17 occasions. The rivalry between the two teams goes way back to the 1990s when they competed for the Premier League titles.

When it comes to the head-to-head meeting at Old Trafford, Arsenal have won on four occasions away from home, last winning in January 2020.

Man Utd have gained supremacy in the fixture having won on home turf on 17 occasions.

Nine of the 30 PL fixtures at Old Trafford have ended in a share of the spoils. Mikel Arteta’s side has lost only once in the last five PL games against the team from Old Trafford, indicating the recent form rests in their favour.
