The Merseyside Police investigate Cristiano Ronaldo smashing Everton fan's phone

Cristiano Ronaldo has always stolen the spotlight even when he has not performed well in the games, and the same thing happened when his team lost the match against Everton on Saturday, Ronaldo once again was in the limelight but for the wrong things.

As the match ended, the 37-year-old headed towards the tunnel with his injured leg, and when an Everton fan showed his phone to take pictures with Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner took the fan’s phone and knocked it on the floor and went straight to the dressing room.

Although this incident has sparked a little resentment, and many fans have demanded his ban from the football games, even the Merseyside police have intervened in this incident as they stated.

“We can confirm that we are liaising with Manchester United Football Club and Everton FC following reports of an alleged assault at the Everton v Manchester United football match at Goodison.”

“As players were leaving the pitch at 2.30 pm, it was reported that a boy was assaulted by one of the away team as they left the pitch. Inquiries are under way and officers are currently working with Everton Football Club to review CCTV footage and are carrying out extensive witness inquiries to establish if an offence has taken place.”

“Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside police contact centre quoting reference number 228 of 9 April 2022.”

The fan’s mother has claimed he was left “bruised” by the incident, which left the youngster “in complete shock”.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Sarah Kelly the mother of 14-year-old Everton fan whose phone was smashed by Ronaldo said “Jake Harding is autistic and didn’t really digest what was happening until he got home.”

“He’s really upset about it, and it’s completely put him off going to the game again,” she told the paper. “This is the first football game he’s been to and this has happened.”

Although Jake said he was not waving his phone towards Ronaldo’s face, it was already down on the floor when the former Real Madrid striker moved towards it.

After acknowledging the incident involving the Everton fan, Ronaldo took to social media and apologised for his wrongdoings “It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set an example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game. I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship.”

Later on Saturday, a United spokesperson said: “We are aware of an alleged incident after today’s game at Everton and the club will cooperate with any police inquiries.”

A win for United could have seen them climb to the fourth spot, but now the defeat leaves them six points behind fourth-place Tottenham in the quest for a Champions League berth. And now both teams have to play their last seven games to make it to the Champions League.

If United don’t qualify for the Champions League next season, Cristiano Ronaldo will be most likely to leave the club.
