The Weekly Premier League Round up: Matchday 17

17th December, Sunday

Premier League finally finished with its Matchday 17 as we again have Arsenal as the league leaders as Liverpool failed to retain their spot for a long time. We saw Luton Town vs Bournemouth getting suspended due to an unprecedented event of Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapsing on the pitch with many other games that gave us a lot of excitement till the full 90 minutes.

Arsenal vs Brighton

Final score line: 2-0

Scorers: Gabriel Jesus (53’)

Kai Havertz (87’) assisted by Eddie Nketiah

Match facts: Arsenal is back to winning ways with a crucial win against a tricky Brighton side who had won their last three visits to the Emirates Stadium. The gunners at their home this time dominated the entire game with moments in patches going in favor of the Brighton side. Gunners having more of the ball had many more chances which they didn’t convert, they’d be hoping to work more on the finishing as they were exceptional in terms of chances created, but the best part is they are on top of the table. Brighton after a good run of form will be hoping to fight back for winning ways to start in the next matches coming up for them.

Brentford vs Aston Villa

Final score line: 1-2

Scorers: K. Lewis-Potter (45’)

Alex Moreno (77’) assisted by Leon Bailey

Ollie Watkins (85’) assisted by Boubacar Camara

Match facts: An end-to-end encounter at the home of Brentford as we saw two red cards for the teams with Ben Mee being sent off for the home side while Boubacar Camara was sent off for the visiting one. Aston Villa increases their unbeaten run with this win and is firming their place as a potential Champions League competitor this time out in the Premier League. Brentford fought hard with 11 men on the pitch as they took the lead but lost it as soon as they went to 10 men. They’d be hoping to show more aggression with the games coming for them.

West Ham vs Wolves

Final score line: 3-0

Scorers: Mohamed Kudus (22’) assisted by Lucas Paqueta

Mohamed Kudus (32’) assisted by Lucas Paqueta

Jarod Bowen (74’) assisted by Lucas Paqueta

Match facts: West Ham registered a comfortable win over rivals Wolves at home to move above the Premier League table as Mohammed Kudus took the Man of the Match award home with a sublime performance for the West London club. Jarod Bowen crowned the match off with a goal on an assist by Lucas Paqueta who has been a revelation for his employers this season. Wolves might look to bounce back from this defeat with a win over their opponents next weekend before the Christmas week.

Liverpool vs Manchester United

Final score line: 0-0

Scorers: None

Match facts: As one would have expected, the match from the Premier League match day 17 kept for the last and it went till the very end. An end-to-end encounter where both the teams had several chances to capitalize on each other, but none were able to as the match went into a stalemate. Manager Erik Ten Hag introduced a pretty much young lineup against a vastly experienced Liverpool side but the decision paid off with Scott McTominay being named the captain of the side, the match if not won went in their favor considering they were playing away from home.
