Why Thomas Partey could be the player Arsenal needed?

Thomas Partey is a pure midfielder. He has a unique capability to both pass and dribble around the ground at his ease.

His passing range is exemplary and his physical presence allows him to dominate opponents in both air and ground duels. He has an accurate shooting and likes taking long shots.

Though he may not be the fastest of his kind, Partey is a complete midfielder. He can also play with ease on either of the wings. Though he is predominantly left-footed, his right foot is no less effective.

Current Situation

A product of Atletico Madrid’s youth system, he had been with the club for almost 10 years since 2011. He made his professional debut for the first team in 2015, and since then he has been a regular starter for the club and has got for himself over 175 appearances in the red and white jersey.

Though even till last year he was quite an important starter, the recent additions have had changed the situation somewhat. In order to accommodate both Luis Suarez and Diego Costa, Diego Simeone would obviously prefer the Saul-Koke partnership.

Also, along with other players like Thomas Lemar, Yannick Carrasco and, Marcos Llorente, Partey had his place questioned in the line-up.

Arsenal successful got him by paying his release clause of $50m on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. The club needs a player like him and has been looking forward to the deal. He can solve multiple problems of the Gooners.

A replacement of Mesut Ozil

Mikel Arteta would not be using Ozil anymore. But someone has to fill his boots and still the search for a player like that always remains.

Partey has a good passing range and eye-catching dribbling.  He is also a physical player and could be providing the needed dominance in the midfield that Arsenal craves.

Cover for the Defence and adding some air power

Thomas Partey has good air abilities too. He can provide a cover for the weak-in-air player of Arsenal like Hector Bellerin, Bukayo Saka. The Ghanaian can also be deployed as a wide midfielder.

He can be used to stop counter-attacks and use his aerial dominance to cover long balls and defend crosses.

Arsenal had a huge defensive failure last season. The defence often looked shaky and unorganised. Partey is a defensive-minded player. He can drop deep a can still create chances. He can become a good cover before the last line of defence.

A real versatile player

The Ghana international is really a versatile player. He can play in a variety of positions from the deep midfield to the backline of defence and even on the wings. He can be used to fill the gaps left in the squad.

Arsenal has quite a many attacking-minded players and he can lay deep to take chances and be the pivot to convert chances. Thomas himself isn’t the best kind of goal scorer but can still deliver in good moments.

My opinion

Thomas Partey is a proven player. Hence there is no chance of him being a failure altogether. The Ghanaian midfielder can solve many problems for the London club and he can get back the confidence and his game. The transfer of Thomas Partey can be an interesting and important one.
