Both nations have been home to some of the greatest batsmen in T20I cricket. The semi-final of the 2014 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and the final of the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, both of which India won, are the two teams' most notable meetings.

The Indian batters have contributed significantly to the establishment of India's supremacy over the Proteas in the game's shortest format after being involved in a few high-scoring matches.

5. Shikhar Dhawan – 233 runs

Shikhar Dhawan, the former opener for India, finished his career with 233 T20I runs against South Africa. Dhawan, who is renowned for his flamboyant style, scored a half-century against the Proteas.

Dhawan's ability to manage the new-ball pacers is demonstrated by his T20I batting record against South Africa. With a remarkable strike rate of 141 and an average of 33, the left-hander scored 233 runs. In August 2024, Shikhar announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. 

4. Suresh Raina – 339 runs

During his T20I career, former middle-order batter Suresh Raina amassed 339 runs against South Africa. He scored these many runs at a solid batting average of 34 and a strike rate of 148.

Raina's first-ever T20I century for India cemented his place in the history of T20I cricket in India. It came in the 2010 ICC Men's T20 World against South Africa. Raina scored a scorching 101 off 60 balls. 

3. Suryakumar Yadav – 346 runs

Suryakumar Yadav, India's current T20I captain, has scored 346 runs against South Africa. Suryakumar, who is renowned for his fearless style and 360-degree range, has accumulated runs against South Africa at a strike rate of 175.63 and an average of 57.6.

Yadav’s numbers against Proteas include one century and four half-centuries. His fierce century off 56 balls at Johannesburg in 2023 helped India register an emphatic 106-run victory.

2. Virat Kohli – 394 runs

In Twenty20 international cricket, Virat Kohli scored 394 runs against South Africa. With an outstanding average of 39.4, Kohli scored three half-centuries against the Proteas. 

In the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, Kohli was the star of the show for India, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls to lead the "Men in Blue" to a respectable total of 176. He was named Player of the Match for his match-winning effort in the final.

1. Rohit Sharma – 429 runs

India’s highest run scorer in the T20I format, Rohit Sharma leads the list with 429 runs against the Proteas. In his stellar record against South Africa, Sharma has managed to amass one hundred and two half-centuries.

Sharma has scored these runs at a batting average of 26.8 and a strike rate of 130. Rohit scored an incredible 106 off 66 balls in 2015 at Dharamsala, which was his most impressive knock against South Africa.
