UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final Predictions and Preview

The Champions League’s last 16 matches were filled with entertainment and chaos as many teams made it to the quarter-finals while few were sent packing out of the competition.

Sportco previews the Champions League Quarter Final draws and provides their predictions for each tie.

One of the matches which stood out in the last 16 was Real Madrid vs PSG, as the Los Blancos condemned PSG to a 3-2 defeat whilst being 2-0 down in the first half of the second leg.

They will now face their last year’s semi-final opponent Chelsea, While Liverpool tackle Benfica and Bayern Munich take Villarreal, who upset Juventus 3-1 in the knockout stage. Last but not least, Atletico plays Manchester City after edging past Manchester United 2-1 in aggregate.

The first leg quarter-final will take place on 5-6 April and the second leg on 12-13 April. In the semi-final, the winner between Chelsea vs Real Madrid plays either Atletico Madrid or Manchester City, while Benfica or Liverpool will face Bayern Munich or Villarreal.

But before that, we analyse which team will make it to the semi-final of Champions League 2021/22.

Champions League Quarter-Final Predictions:

1. Manchester City vs Atletico Madrid

The 2022 finalists will be hoping to reach the final once again as they have been regarded favourites for the second time and Manchester City will want to return with a much elusive trophy this time.

Although they face Atletico Madrid, who are a force to be reckoned with, Manchester City have a robust squad and great depth, they might face minor issues breaking what is now reasonably weak Atletico Madrid’s defence.

However, Atletico Madrid will have their chances as they stunned City’s neighbour Manchester United and will be optimistic about pulling another upset, but Diego Simeone’s team is not what they once were, but they still hold a chance of pulling a miracle. Although United’s neighbours are way tougher, and City is clear in this fixture.

Champions League Quarter-Final Predictions: Manchester City 3-1 Atletico Madrid (aggregate score)

2. Liverpool vs Benfica

Benfica shocked Ajax when they sent them packing but now face the most arduous task. As Liverpool will not entertain them, they are here to get their business done. Benfica are probably the weakest team in this draw, but we cannot underestimate them.

Liverpool has been designated the second-favourites after City. And this should be an easy match for the Reds.

Champions League Quarter-Final Predictions: Liverpool 5-2 Benfica (aggregate score)

3. Bayern Munich vs Villarreal

Even Bayern Munich have drawn with an easy opponent, Villarreal, which they should see off without any scathe. But they should not be overconfident in this game as we saw what Villarreal did to Juventus, pulled an absolute shocker and that too at their home ground.

While the Spanish giant made it to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2011 and what lies ahead of them is a mountain to climb.

Unai Emery's men will have to find a route to humble the ruthless Bayern who have a habit of racking up crazy score-lines. We believe Bayern are favourites in this fixture.

Champions League Quarter-Final Predictions: Bayern Munich 4-1 Villarreal (aggregate score)

4. Chelsea vs Real Madrid

The most anticipating match we are all waiting for, Real Madrid will have a déjà vu of their last year’s semi-final game when Chelsea humbled the Los Blancos 3-1 on aggregate.

Now they meet once again in the quarter-finals, and the surprising thing is Real Madrid have never beaten Chelsea whenever two giants have come face to face in any competition.

Thomas Tuchel has never tasted defeat against Real Madrid and always got better off them, which could help his side out massively.

At the same time, you cannot doubt Real Madrid, who are the Champions League specialists. What’s so special about them is they are unpredictable and can change a game on a whim; on top of that, they have Karim Benzema, who has been firing on all cylinders in the Round of 16.

However, they did lose to the Blues last year in the UCL semis but Chelsea are not what they were last season and are being troubled financially after their owner Roman Abramovich got sanctioned in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

So, we are favouring Real Madrid in this fixture.

Champions League Quarter-Final Predictions: Chelsea 2-3 Real Madrid (aggregate score)
