Arsenal keeping an eye on Bayer Leverkusen's defensive rock

Premier League giants Arsenal are in the hunt for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah if reports in England are to be believed.

The Gunners are looking to revamp their error-prone leaky defence in the summer, and 24-year-old Tah could finally provide some consistency at the back.

The German centre-half is believed to have a £33million release clause at the Bay Arena according to Bild. However, Arsenal will have to move quickly as the clause expires in June.

Tah is expected to make the German squad for the European Championship this summer adding to his nine caps for the country.

David Luiz, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi have all failed to convince boss Mikel Arteta that it is believed that Arteta is keen on replacing each of them.

Meanwhile, Rob Holding is recovering from injury while Calum Chambers faces another seven months out with a cruciate knee injury.

Chambers has been decent for the Gunners when he was fit but Holding has failed to make much of impression as well.

Tah has cast doubt on his future with Leverkusen, saying: "There are several clubs that want me.

"I will speak with my agents and my parents at the end of the season and we will make the right decision."

Another potential defensive target of the Gunners is also from Bundesliga.

Arsenal are long-term admirers of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and even saw a bid rejected for him last summer.

The Gunners have been chasing the highly-rated 21-year-old since last summer and it appears likely that he will be departing the German title-chasers.

The Frenchman has a £50million release clause in his RB Leipzig contract.

But, with just 18 months left on the deal, he could go for even less than that in the summer.

Upamecano himself was coy on the speculation in an interview with the French media.

He said: "There are several clubs that want me.

"I will speak with my agents and my parents at the end of the season and we will make the right decision."
