Ben Chilwell becomes Frank Lampard's third signing for Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed the capture of one of the most discussed players in the Foxes’ 19/20 squad, Ben Chilwell. The 23-year-old England left-back was linked with the Blues a long back.

Chilwell played a huge role for Leicester last season, with his quick passing and accurate crossing, Chilwell had already fascinated a lot of the top clubs.

Both the Manchester clubs were also reported to have interests in the full-back but it was Frank Lampard who won the race and the move was announced via Chelsea’s official website.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said, “We are very pleased to have completed our third addition to our exciting squad for the coming season. Ben brings plenty of top-level experience playing in the Premier League, Champions League, and at the international level, despite his young age.”

Chilwell also recorded a message as a Chelsea player that said, “I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club. I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honors next season. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully it won’t be long before we’re playing in front of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge.”

Chilwell first came into limelight through Leicester City’s youth academy, making his first-team debut in FA Cup in 2016. In the 2017/18 season, Chilwell slowly and steadily made his mark at the left-back position and since then he has only gone from strength to strength. Consequently, he has already earned 11 England caps.

Leicester are currently eyeing Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico to replace him. However, Luke Thomas, another youngster who filled in injured Chilwell’s shoes in the final few games of the 2019/20 season, has also signed a new long-term contract with the Foxes due to some promising performances.
