Messi has been Barcelona's best player by miles, scoring 640 goals and the count is on. The Argentine has won 10 La Liga titles, six Copa Del Rey, four Champions League and he have been awarded the Ballon d'Or winner for a record six times.

The renaming would just be a tribute to Messi who has been associated with the club since he was 13 when he left his home in Argentina and presidential candidate Emili Rousard has promised to hold a referendum on the matter if he wins January’s hotly-anticipated election.

As per Marca, Roussard said that Camp Nou would be renamed "Camp Nou-Leo Messi".

Another repeated claim by yet another candidate is to bring back the Brazilian Neymar alongside Messi to Catalonia. In past years, several candidates have promised to bring several players to the club such as David Beckham, but landing Ronaldinho instead after the ex-Manchester United player joined their fierce rivals Real Madrid.

On the other hand, his rival Victor Font has warned everyone that Barcelona's finances are not good, in fact very critical which contradicts the thought of bringing Neymar back and also the fact that Messi may leave is a bigger concern for the club.

He also fired shots at Roussard saying any claims like this should not be taken seriously. The thought was that they couldn't sign Eric Garcia or Memphis Depay who were first priorities then the arrival of Neymar is far from consideration.

However, all this also could be to vow Lionel Messi who may join his ex-boss Pep Guardiola as several reports suggest. Only time will reveal what happens in the future and if Ronald Koeman's Messi-led Barcelona wins the UCL, we may see a turnaround.
