Lacazette-Thomas Lemar swap possible if Atletico fails to sign Cavani

Alexandre Lacazette might be on his way to Spain this winter if Atletico Madrid doesn’t manage to complete the signing of Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The Atletico boss Diego Simeone wants an experienced striker at his disposal and while he has Cavani on his radar, he reportedly has his sights on Lacazette as well.

Lacazette has not been in the best of forms for Arsenal in the ongoing season. But, his role in the next couple of weeks is going to be really significant for the club, as Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is on a 3-match ban after being sent off against Crystal Palace.

Lacazette is expected to be the Arsenal captain till the time Aubameyang serves his ban. It’s really interesting if the Gunners boss Mikel Arteta allows the Frenchman to leave in such a crunch situation.

If Lacazette leaves, Nicolas Pepe will be Arsenal’s main man upfront and he has been a little bit scratchy in his debut season at the Emirates.

There have been patches where Pepe has looked brilliant, but he has not been clinical throughout. The Ivorian is probably not ready yet to lead Arsenal’s attack in the absence of Aubameyang and Lacazette.

It is understood if Atletico does come for Lacazette, they will offer Thomas Lemar in return. Lemar has been in and out of the Atletico squad in the recent times. He has not scored any goals in the 18 appearances he has made in the La Liga this season.

However, Atletico will think about the Lacazette-Lemar swap deal only if they fail to land Cavani. There is going to be a meeting between the hierarchies of Atletico and PSG regarding the transfer of Cavani.

“They are meeting in Paris to ask, maybe not for the transfer, but for a loan and that (Cavani) is Diego Simeone's first option." The Spanish football journalist Alvaro Montero said while talking to Sky Sports News.
