Former Blues manager ranks Chelsea as favourites for the final UCL spot

Jose Mourinho discussed the race to finish in the Premier League’s top four as Tottenham Hotspur prepare to face Chelsea. Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho said Chelsea are favourites to finish in the top four as he heaped pressure on Frank Lampard’s side ahead of the London derby.

Chelsea sit on the fourth place and final Champions League spot after 26 games, one point ahead of Tottenham. They visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Spurs, Manchester United and Arsenal are among the teams vying for a spot in the final four. 

Jose insists Chelsea remain in the box seat despite a run of four league matches without a win.

Mourinho told reporters, “At this moment, Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal, Sheffield United, Wolves, Everton are in the race. We have ambitions to be there but we are one point behind Chelsea, so they have an advantage to all of us." 

"That’s obvious. It’s not a big advantage but it is an advantage. Chelsea at this moment are the favorites for the final UCL spot, considering Leicester have nine points more at this stage of the season”.

The former Chelsea boss ramped up mind games for Tottenham’s game against the Blues after claiming that he knows the tactics of his opponents for the London derby. 

Mourinho said, “I was told they were back to a back-five which is what they normally do when their results are not the best.” When asked about the source, who gave him this news, he added, “The same way journalists have a lot of news and you don’t tell the source.” 

The interesting part of the derby would be the absence of Heung-Min Son, who has been scoring for Jose and team lately, while the Blues will have Tammy Abraham back on the bench at least if not a start in the starting XI.
