The last time Chelsea and Liverpool played each other in a FA Cup final was back in 2012, and fate has brought them back together after ten years, 

Hence, we take a look at how the 2012 FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool transpired.

Chelsea Starting XI: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Mikel, Ramires, Mata, Kalou, Drogba.

Liverpool Starting XI: Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Jose Enrique; Spearing, Henderson; Downing, Gerrard, Bellamy; Suarez.

The players are waiting to emerge from the tunnel, and the atmosphere in Wembley is electric as fans chant for their team in the stands.

1 min: we are off to an epic start; Drogba tries a long-range as the ball flies over the post.

10 min: GOAL!!!! Chelsea score: we are just 10 mins into this game, and Ramires has put the Blues ahead. Ramires with a great goal, Spearing losses the possession in midfield Ramires takes the ball he outmuscles past Enrique and latches off between Rein’s legs.

20 min: Ramires with another brilliant display as he chips the ball, but Reina had it under control. 

25 min: Suarez gets the ball but loses possession as it ricochets off a tackle. Henderson had the ball but lost it as Lampard wins back the ball and tries a long distance, the ball goes wide. 

35 min: Cole has the ball but losses under pressure, and Liverpool with a counter-attack. Liverpool are mostly carrying the attack from the left flank through Enrique and Downing but fail to find the cutting-edge. 

40 min: Downing with a cross! His crosses are impressive as they put Chelsea under pressure. His cross led to a corner as Cech had to leave the position and punch it away. 

Chelsea vs Liverpool FA Cup Final 2012: Half time, Liverpool are doing their best to exert influence, but Chelsea somehow manages to get away with it as they successfully defended the lead in the first half. 

50 Min: The second half gets underway, with Chelsea winning a corner. Lampard takes the corner as the ball goes to Terry, who is fighting with Skrtel, but it flies over, and the referee awards freekick to Liverpool.

51 min: GOAL!! Drogba makes it 2-0 to Chelsea! Chelsea are now two goals ahead; Lampard finds Drogba with his through ball; he calmly slots the ball past Reina. 

60 Min: Kalou has the ball; he waltzes past with little interference from Liverpool’s players and has the time to curl the ball in the top corner, but he doesn’t.

63 min: GOAL!!! Liverpool with a lifeline! Andy Carroll gives a morale booster to Liverpool as he collects the ball in eight-yard, and the spectators wait for him to smash the ball. However, he thumps it into the roof of the net.  

71 min: Game on! It is turning out to be one of the best finals since West Ham vs Liverpool. With another effort as he, Carroll towers the ball to Gerrard on the edge of the area, but the volley is 40 yards over it. 

80 min: Liverpool are desperately looking for the equalizer with ten minutes to go. Carroll has been the best player in the pitch, giving the Reds a great rhythm. 

81 min: Goal? No goal? Carroll almost gave Liverpool an equalizer; his header from five yards out almost went inside the net, thanks to Cech, who parries it away. It could have gone in if it wasn’t for Cech. 

90 min: five minutes have been added and Liverpool is finding their way back to the game. 

90min +5: Throw in for Liverpool; they fail to get into Chelsea’s half. The referee blows the final whistle. Congratulations to Chelsea for winning the FA Cup.

Chelsea were an ascendant side in this contest, but the introduction of Carroll changed the tempo of the game as Liverpool dominated the preceding but failed to level the game. Chelsea deserves this trophy more than anyone.
