El Clasico Player Ratings: Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid | La Liga 2021-22

Real Madrid continued their winning streak after ousting Barcelona 2-1 in the season’s first El Clasico, moving Los Blancos back to the top of the table. 

Sportco provides a verdict with their player ratings for the El Clasico game yesterday.

Barcelona started the game well, dominating possession but failed to make amends going forward, Sergino Dest with an excellent opportunity fired the ball over the bar from close range.

Real Madrid got back into the game after finding the breakthrough in the 32nd minute, through David Alaba, with an emphatic finish past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. It looked like the game will end in a 1-0, but Vasquez and Aguero had other things in mind. 

Vasquez doubled the lead with a rebound and slotted into an empty net, while Aguero tapped the ball home, scoring his first goal in Barcelona colours after a sumptuous pass from Sergino Dest to make it 2-1. Let's analyze the player ratings for the El Clasico starting off with Barcelona:

Barcelona Player Ratings

Ter Stegen - Was excellent on the pitch today prevented two real Madrid obvious goals. However, conceded two goals. Rating 5/10

Oscar Mingueza - Couldn't cope up with Vinicius's speed and almost gave away a penalty. Overall decent performance 4/10

Eric Garcia - Hardly made any impact at the back, but managed to keep Benzema quiet most of the time. Rating 6/10

Gerard Pique- leading the team from the back could have scored that header. Remained strong for the most part. Rating 6/10

Jordi Alba- made his impact on the left flank, gave his all on the pitch, and defended relentlessly. Rating 7/10

Frenkie De Jong - Showed great energy kept pressing until he got the ball back, but simply looked lost again and too often drifting into anonymity.  Rating 6/10 

Sergio Busquets - Great performance as always, kept breaking up their play and made 7 ball recoveries. Sportco rates Busquets' performance for yesterday's El Clasico with a player ratings of 7/10

Gavi- Showed great enthusiasm but kept losing the ball and was disappeared half of the time from the game. Rating 5/10

Ansu Fati- failed to get on the ball and kept himself isolated and didn't get a hold of the game. Rating 5/10

Sergino Dest - Couldn't convert a great-opportunities, later was shifted to his usual position. Rating 5/10

Memphis Depay - Showed great effort and was influential at his natural position.  Began to show his creativity, but couldn't provide anything decisive registered five passes. Therefore, Sportco's player ratings for Depay in yesterday's El Clasico is an 8/10

Substitutes- Sergio Aguero 7/10, Philippe Coutinho 6/10, Luk de Jong 4/10

Real Madrid Player Ratings 

Thibaut Courtois - Didn't get to do the hard work and was unlucky to not keep the clean sheet. Rating 8/10 

Lucas Vasquez- Alba got the better of him and was often relied on the support of his defensive colleagues, but scored a much-needed goal to seal a victory. Rating 8/10

Eder Militao- Great understanding of the game and made excellent tackles, and also remained solid throughout the game. Rating 8/10

David Alaba- Magnificent on the pitch overall showed his importance, and what a way to mark your El Clasico debut. Excellent long-range goal. Sportco's Player Ratings for David Alaba is a 9/10 

Ferland Mendy- Decent performance, made few lapses, and allowed Dest space in the box. Although was solid at the back. Rating 7/10

Casemiro- Showed great awareness by dropping deep and immovable presence in front of his back four. Rating 8/10 

Toni Kroos- Was not seen in the game much to set the tone of the match. Overall satisfactory performance. Rating 6/10 

Luka Modric- Always dictating the game and made seven tackles to regain the possession, provided an excellent pass to Benzema which could have resulted in a goal. Hence, Sportco's player ratings for Luka Modric for the El Clasico is an 8/10 

Rodrygo- made excellent runs in the game, played with aplomb, and also got his name on the assist. Rating 7/10 

Karim Benzema- Was kept quiet half of the time. Great one-to-one game with his teammates, Key in build-up play, however, missed a great opportunity with a bad touch. Rating 6/10  

Vinicius Junior- Wreaked havoc on the left-wing with his splendid dribbling. An absolute nightmare for Mingueza and Dest. Ran the show from the left-wing and was key to the build-up to the first goal. Sportco's player ratings for Vinicius Jr. for the El Clasico is an 8.5/10 

Substitutes- Federico Valverde 6/10, Marco Asensio 7/10, Dani Carvajal N/A
