Former Liverpool player urges his former club to sign in-demand PL midfielder

Former Liverpool midfielder turned TV pundit Danny Murphy has urged his former club to sign Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish. Murphy sees the Aston Villa star as a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp's high-flying Liverpool side.

Liverpool made yet another record on Saturday as they became the club with highest ever points across all five major leagues in Europe after 21 games. Their feat of 61 points in 21 games is indeed incredible but the Reds still have a long way to go to end their 30-year long wait for the Premier League.

Aston Villa have been struggling after making a comeback to the Premier League this season but their skipper Grealish has been enjoying his time in the top tier of English football.

Grealish has been strongly linked with a host of Premier League clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea but Murphy wants his former club to sign the 24-year-old as he believes that the Englishman can help Klopp's side become even stronger.

The Englishman has already scored eight goals and six assists in 22 appearances across all competitions this season so far. Murphy said that the 24-year-old could fit into any of the top six teams including Liverpool and added that he would prefer the attacking midfielder over Naby Keita.

Murphy said: “Jack could fit into any of the Big Six teams though some need him more than others. His big asset is the variety in his game. He can have an impact as a No10, off the left, in a midfield three or even as a deep-lying midfielder.

"He is a dribbler, a strong player who can receive the ball in tight areas and carry it forward. As the most-fouled player in the league, he can take the kicks and get up to create and score goals.

“He’d walk into the Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United teams right away. He’s not inferior to Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley or Mason Mount at Chelsea. Even though Liverpool are currently well-stocked for midfielders, what if Gini Wijnaldum doesn’t sign a new contract and James Milner gets to a certain age?
Could Jack do the hard yards Jurgen Klopp demands? Yes. Would I have him ahead of Naby Keita for example? Yes.”

Grealish has been at Aston Villa all his career and certainly deserves a step up in his career really soon. The club are unlikely to stand in his way considering how much he has contributed for them over the years.
