European Championship is one of the most elite competitions, several European powerhouse battles for continental supremacy, and along with that, we have witnessed many famous games and goals over the years, and they have always amazed us.

With this in mind, let's have a look at the top ten greatest Euro goals that are etched in the European Championship history. 

1. Netherlands vs Soviet Union Euro 1988: Marco van Basten 

We kick-start our list of the ten greatest Euro goals with Marco van Basten, who scored the greatest goal in European Championship history against the Soviet Union. 

With his gymnastic ability, he flew on-air and slotted the ball over the Soviet Union's keeper, which sent the entire stadium into raptures. 

However, players and managers couldn't believe that goal as it was impossible to score from that angle. Ronald Koeman said, "You cannot shoot from that angle," "It really was too high," said Frank Rijkaard. 

2. Czech Republic vs Scotland Euro 2020: Patrik Schick

Patrik Schick might have scored the goal of the Euro 2020 tournament against Scotland when he lobbed the ball up and over Scotland's goalkeeper from the half-line. Patrik Schick became the first player to score a longe range goal ever in European Championship history.

3. Belgium vs Denmark Euro 1984: Franky Vercauteren 

We see very seldom tight angle goals as it is very hard to score a goal when you are not in the right position; however, although we do have witnessed such goals, which has surprised us. Franky Vercauteren showed us when he scored this beautiful volley from a tight angle against Denmark. 

4. Switzerland vs Poland Euro 2016: Xherdan Shaqiri    

Switzerland's Shaqiri scored one of the greatest bicycle kicks in Euro 2016; when a deflected ball came towards him, he whipped an overhead kick which went straight into the bottom right corner. 

5. Portugal vs Hungary Euro 2016: Cristiano Ronaldo 

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a sumptuous backheel goal against Hungary. History will remember this when Ronaldo saved his team from elimination by the skin of their teeth in their last group stage game and inspire Portugal to their first-ever international trophy. 

6. Sweden vs Italy Euro 2012: Zlatan Ibrahimovic 

Next on our list of greatest Euro goals ever is scored by one of the best players ever to have played for Sweden. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored many memorable goals in his career, and this one stands among them as well. 

An impressive backheel goal beating Buffon, and Christian Vieri throwing himself in the air as he failed to head the ball over the post.   

7. France vs Romania Euro 2016: Dimitri Payet 

Dimitri Payet has now gone oblivious since his heroic performance in Euro 2016 for France. Payet was known for his long-range goals, his one the best goals in Euro 2016. He scored against Romania, as he blasted the ball from outside the box into the top left corner. 

8. Portugal vs Netherlands Euro 2004: Maniche

Maniche scored this goal against one of the best goalkeepers of his time, Edwin Van der Sar. A short-taken corner by Ronaldo to Maniche. 

The Portuguese midfielder only had one option from his position, which was to cross the ball inside the penalty area.

However, Maniche had other plans as he unleashed the ball from his right foot as the ball went straight into the left corner of the goal post.   

9. Czechoslovakia vs West Germany Euro 1976: Antonin Panenka  

It was the first time the fans in the stadium ever witnessed such a penalty when Antonin Panenka took a long run from outside the area; many fans thought he would shoot the ball with power; however, Panenka chipped the ball straight into the goal post sending the keeper wrong way. 

The 'Panenka' is still replicated to date by several footballers. Hence, his iconic goal against West Germany deserves to be on our list of the top ten greatest Euro goals of all time.

10. Republic of Ireland vs Soviet Union Euro 1988: Ronnie Whelan

When Ronnie Whelan stunned the entire stadium with his acrobatic volley against the Soviet Union. Mick McCarthy's pristine long-throw met Whelan's left leg, who slotted the ball acrobatically into the net.
