The Impact of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill this IPL

Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have been in fantastic form in this IPL. Many senior Indian cricketers are impressed by both these young batters. Former Indian and Chennai Super Kings cricketer Robin Uthappa said “Yashasvi Jaiswal will be one of the biggest things in Indian cricket along with Shubman Gill”. Former Spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that Jaiswal and Gill have the potential and talent to be the future of Indian cricket. He called Yashasvi the most impressive player of this season.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 625 runs in 14 games this season and hence was at the 4th position in the Orange Cap standings.He has an average of 48.08 and strike rate of 163.61. Rajasthan Royals failed to qualify for the playoffs but they saw a very positive thing this season which is Yashasvi’s performance. He had a brilliant season overall with 1 century and 5 half-centuries with highest score of 124. An uncapped Indian Player caught everyone’s attention due to his shot selection and also the way he finds the gap between the fielders. Former South African and RCB cricketer AB de Villiers praised Jaiswal by calling him his favorite player of IPL 2023. He hasn’t been consistent from the last three years in IPL but this year he made a great impact. 

Yashasvi’s talent has never been in doubt as he has done exceptionally well in the Under-19 World Cup and domestic tournaments. After his remarkable performance in IPL this season, he got selected as a stand-by-player in the Indian Team for the upcoming World Test Championship final 2023 against Australia. He replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad who will miss the WTC final as he is getting married. 

Shubman Gill scored 851 runs in 16 matches this season at an average of 60.78 and strike rate of 156.43. He is currently holding the Orange Cap with three centuries and four half-centuries with the highest score of 129. Legendary Indian Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praised Gill for his excellent performance in the ongoing IPL. He said that Shubman Gill’s performance this season has been nothing short of unforgettable. The young GT batter has hit 3 centuries in this IPL and became the second Indian batter after Virat Kohli to hit three hundreds in a season. He has been outstanding and made many records. He became the third batter after Virat and Buttler to cross 850 runs in an IPL season. 

Gill is having an incredible year so far. He was brilliant with the bat while playing for the Indian team as well and is part of WTC final’s Squad. He became the youngest double centurion in one-day Internationals, and India’s highest centurion in T20 Internationals. And now he is having his best IPL season as he has smashed two back-to-back centuries. Everyone appreciated his ability to get the momentum and make a profound impact on the game.
