Internazionale closing in on the signature of former Man City star defender

Serie A giants Internazionale are reportedly closing in on the signing of veteran AS Roma defender Aleksandar Kolarov.

The 34-year-old left-back has been with AS Roma for three seasons after joining from Manchester City for a fee around £4 million. Now, he is poised to join Serie A rivals Inter and link up with Antonio Conte.

It is widely reported in Italy that the two clubs are still quibbling over the fee, with Roma wanting £1.8 million for the Serbian international skipper.

Kolarov is currently away with the Serbia national team preparing for their Nations League games. However, the former Lazio and Manchester City could fly straight back to Milan to seal the deal after he has played for his country.

Nerazzuri boss Conte is acting swiftly in the market following their disappointing Europa League final loss to Sevilla.

Although Kolarov is likely to fill the left-back slot, Conte is still chasing the signature of out of favour Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri. He too is a former AS Roma player, but has not managed to persuade Frank Lampard to become a regular starter.

Palmieri has slipped further down the Stamford Bridge pecking order following the £50m arrival of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.

Internazionale have also being linked with what would be the most sensational of transfers. Along with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, they are in the hunt for Barcelona's wantaway superstar Lionel Messi.

The 33-year-old has stunned the Catalans by slapping in a transfer request and has turned the football world upside down.

Inter have been exceptionally busy in the transfer market this time around having already signed Achraf Hakimi, Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi.

They have also been linked with with Parma regarding the signings of full-back Matteo Darmian and striker Andreas Cornelius.
